Congratulations to those running Greenwood Junior School in Nottingham, for winning this week's Prats of The Week Award.
The powers that be at the school decided that running a school nativity play, and celebrating Eid (which lasts only two days) was simply too much bother. Their solution was to send out letters saying that the Nativity play was cancelled.
Unsurprisingly a number of parents were a tad pissed off.
Surprisingly the school hadn't anticipated the reaction, and hastily tried to back peddle claiming there had been a misunderstanding and sent out another letter. The second letter said that the play would be postponed to the New Year.
Errmm...what use is a Nativity play in New Year?
Given that Eid lasts but two days the school, had they used a little bit of imagination, could have still put on the play.
Did they not think of the negative PR that this decision and letters would generate?
Did anyone really think of the consequences of their actions?
It seems not.
The powers that be at Greenwood Junior School, well deserving Prats of The Week.

Political correctness gone mad!! Actually, thinking about it, it doesn't need to go mad, it is mad!!
ReplyDeleteIt saddens me that there are so many people, many in our education and other public sector roles, that are happy to drop our culture and traditions in favour of those that are alien to us.
I am happy to welcome guests into my home but, when they want to change my wallpaper and re-arrange my furniture to their own liking etc then, I would ask them to leave.
...and once again the PC brigade manage to make prats of themselves by insulting just about everyone. Setting aside the fact the Eid only lasts two days and the Nativity could go ahead and all the arguments about different cultures getting preferential treatments this has also shown that the school in question appears to know nothing of the culture it is supposedly 'promoting'. Most of the Muslims I know (and I know a few) would be disgusted at this as it is insulting a prophet of Islam, in this case Jesus.
ReplyDeleteAt the school my daughter attends, the pupils from Muslim backgrounds join in the celebrations and always have roles in the nativity play as their parents believe in honouring the birth of one of the prophets. It's only the PC idiots who seem to manage to stir up problems like this through their own stupid actions and apparent lack of understanding of the cultures they are claiming to protect.
The question that needs asking is this: if we were in a 'tollersnt' Muslim country, such as Saudi Arabia, would a Muslim school make time for a Christian Nativity Play or, indeed, anything else we in the west associate with Christmas, such as a pantomime?
ReplyDeleteJust one word sums this up.
