Pedantically it should be "prats not in space" ;-) But that doesn't sound as good.

Tho I rather suspect the joke is on the audience of this programme rather than the participants.

Sad to say I had to watch some of this junk.

I was hooked because just as I was about flip channels I read the TV guide and a little voice at the back of my brain said "how are they going to explain gravity?"

After starting as good car crash TV it's now reached the terminally boring stage.

Still, can't wait for the second series

  3. Chris,

I've only seen snatches of this garbage before turning the channel over because I was cringing in embarrassment for these moronic plebs.

So how are they going to be fooled by the lack of gravity? I am really intrigued.

In the past, real astronauts were highly trained and educated people, being, for example, top pilots, or holding degrees in subjects far more difficult than "surfing" or the "history of football" (That says it all for Nanny's current educational system). Whatever makes these clowns think they could even be considered for being up to the job??

The fact that they've been through the entire education system without ever having "failed"? I've seen it a lot in recent graduates; they get out into the real world and it comes as something of a shock that they don't get everything handed to them on a platter.

  5. Anon - sorry to sound confused, but, as stated earlier, I have only really caught small segments of this rubbish - are you saying that these buffoons are actually educated to degree level??

spiv, as you say it is cringe making TV.

The bit about gravity or expected lack there of, I couldn't comprehend how anyone could believe they were in space while still experiencing gravity.

The answer to the gravity problem was simple and audacious, tell the victims they wouldn't be going high enough to experience "full" zero gravity, also explain that artificial gravity simulators had been installed in the shuttle.

I still can't make my mind up, it's junk TV but in some ways the execution is rather well thought out, for example the selection system did target the most gullable.

As we've already had space tourists and Richard Branson amongst others have started to talk about offering joy rides in space I can see the the necessary grain of truth exisiting to carry off the deception.

However I must admit the some of the characters selected did suggest a trawl of the shallow end of the gene pool.

And finally I do want to see if they can manage a second series, because that would have to involve some really gullable people

  7. Thanks Chris, well at least they didn't try to use lead lined boots as the excuse!!! :-))

  8. One wonders if this is what Burt Rutan has in mind with his vision for commercial space travel. My bet is he would cringe at the thought of this lot floating around inside one of his craft, even as tourists. As for the idea of these things as crewmembers, well...there's Challenger and Columbia to remember.

I found the first episode quite amusing, and it has rapidly lost any appeal. The whole double-hoax, i.e. hoax on public, debate is just retarded. As someone said recently: "whatever the deal is, it's crap TV".

I'm inclined to agree with them.
