TUC Wants To Give HMRC Powers To Enforce Holidays

1 This has got fuck all to do with HMRC.

2 HMRC are shite at what they already do, they don't need to be given additional things to fuck up.

3 HMRC should not be given additional powers, as they already have far too many.

Nanny To Ban Boozing At Airports?

How "ironic" that Ryanair, Easyjet and Panorama are all bleating at the same time about boozed up passengers.

A cynic might suggest that this is some co-ordinated ploy devised by Nanny in order to allow her to ban boozing at airports!

Anyhoo, be that as it may, the BBC and all other major news organs report that Ryanair has called on UK airports to enforce a two-drink limit, after a BBC Panorama investigation suggested arrests of drunken passengers have risen by 50% in a year.

The airline has already banned customers from drinking duty-free alcohol on board (fair enough!).

It seems that a total of 387 people were arrested between February 2016 and February 2017 - up from 255 the previous year.

Needless to say Nanny's Home Orifice is "considering" calls for tougher rules on alcohol.

Ryanair is also urging airports to ban the sale of alcohol before 10am, and to limit the number of drinks per boarding pass to a maximum of two.

Here are a few thoughts:

1 To put the number of arrests (387) into context, annual passenger numbers published by the Civil Aviation Authority show that in total 251.6 million passengers used a UK airport in 2015.

2 Many of the budget airline destinations are to "all you can drink" resorts, as such what sort of passenger do the budget airlines think they will get if they cater to "all you can drink" holiday makers?

3 I and many others can drink like a fish on a plane, but manage not to assault anyone or ending up being arrested. The issue is down to the nature of the cretins who end up brawling.

4 Banning booze before 10am sounds very "modest", yet airports are international and people are travelling in their own timezones where 10:00GMT may in fact be 18:00 according to their body clocks.

5 Limiting sales of pre flight booze, and stopping drinking duty free on board, may to a cynic seem to be a way of increasing sales of on board drinks!

6 Flying is hellish enough, without the comfort of booze it would be an even more joyless experience.

7 Shite airlines that charge for everything, but still cram people in to seats designed for midget, get bad tempered customers.

8 How the hell do they think that they can enforce a two drink limit? People will get their friends to buy the booze, or they will simply get boozed up before arrival at the airport.

All in all this is a coordinated piece of bollocks that will be used by Nanny to impose unenforceable drink restrictions on 251 million people!

Holidays Are Bad For You

Nanny's chums from Liverpool University have conducted a study which, in their eyes, proves that taking a fortnight's holiday is bad for you.

Apparently two weeks of enjoying yourself not only piles on the pounds and farks up your liver, but also causes a loss of muscle mass.

As per The Sun:
"Researchers asked 28 fit, young adults to cut activity levels by 80 per cent, from 10,000 daily steps to just 1,500. By the end of 14 days, they had lost a third of a kilogram of lean muscle and their waistlines had grown 1cm.

And when they took up their old exercise regime, they did not get back in shape within a fortnight."

Now fair enough 14 days of over indulging and lounging about will no doubt add a few pounds, and temporarily give your liver an extra "workout". However, will you lose muscle mass?

As with everything else, despite Nanny's desire to compartmentalise us, there is no one size fits all answer.

As per Livestrong:
"In the most drastic scenario, you can lose up to 80 percent of your fitness level in as few as two weeks if you’re new to exercise. If you are incredibly fit and have been training for years, you’ll hang onto your fitness level for about three months, ACE Fitness says.

If you start retraining after a lull, however, your muscles will remember where you left off and build up more rapidly than if you were just starting a new program.

The detraining period actually strengthens muscle fibers, which means your retraining can lead to a higher fitness level that you might have been able to achieve had you not taken a break, Columbia University says."
In other words Nanny, as usual, is scaremongering.

For why?

She wants us to cut back on holidays and work more, so that she can take her cut of our salaries.

Knobheadery

As loyal readers know I have written several times about the daft rule introduced last year by Nanny, that forbids parents to take their kids out of school during term time, lest they be punished by a fine and possible criminal record.

As I have noted, when was a wee nipper it was a simple matter of common sense and a discussion between the parents and the school as to whether it would be permitted.

However, under the iron rod of Nanny (can I say "rod" before the watershed?), common sense has long since been abandoned. Sadly there is yet another case of absolute buffoonery caused by Nanny's daft rule, as Maxine Ingrouille-Kidd has found to her and her son's cost.

Ms Ingrouille-Kidd has been threatened with a fine of up to £120 and possible prosecution if she takes her son Curtis (13, who is a blind quadriplegic and has cerebral palsy) out of school during term time.
Doctors have given Curtis a few years to live, and warned he may only survive until his late teens.

Ms Ingrouille-Kidd is quoted by the Telegraph:
My son is 14 in October and this may well be his last holiday.
I asked for a holiday request form and was absolutely flabbergasted and shocked when the response was ‘no’.
Unsurprisingly, following media pressure and a campaign on Facebook, Somerset Council has now said it would speak to the school regarding the case.

It is quite ridiculous that this issue has arisen in the first place, common sense dictates that this should be a simple matter of a discussion between the school and the parents.

It is knobheadery in the extreme!

Criminal Family Holiday

As I noted recently, Nanny now takes a dim view of parents taking their kids out of school for a short break during term time.

In my day it was a simple matter of a commonsense discussion between parents and teachers as to whether this could be allowed. Anyhoo, moving forward to the present day and Nanny has forbidden it.

My commiserations to the parents (unidentified to protect their children) who took their kids on holiday during term time.

Can you guess what happened next children?

Yes, that's right, they were put on trial at Nuneaton Magistrates Court and given conditional discharges (12 and 10 months respectively).

What does this mean?

It means they have a criminal record!
Absolutely potty!

Get Real!

Last September Nanny banned parents from taking kids out of school for holidays, and subjected them to a potential fine of up to £1,500.

When I was a nipper commonsense was allowed to be used, and parents/schools would come to a reasonable agreement on whether "little Tommy" could go away for a few days during term time.

Anyhoo, the tourism industry and councillors across the UK now claim that the policy is "hurting" Britain’s tourism trade and are supporting calls for Nanny to rethink her inflexible stance on the matter.

Sadly there are some numpties (in the media and parliament) who are also bleating that the prices of hotels/holidays should not be allowed to rise during summer season.

Factoid: in a free market economy when demand increases so do prices!

Get real!
