More Tithes For Our EU Overlords

I am ungemused to read that our EU overlords are telling Nanny's local councils to look for ways to increase taxes (allegedly to help cut pollution).

Motorists could be charged for driving through British towns and cities, and households could face a "bin tax" under EU plans to meet emissions targets.

The Telegraph reports that the European Commission has issued a new set of guidelines for councils on how to which sets how to meet targets to reduce emissions by 20 per cent by 2020.

It said that councils should send a "clear economic signal to polluters" to reduce vehicle emissions and encourage recycling.

Unless I am very much mistaken, council tax includes the costs of refuse collection (and councils happily fine people who besmirch the recycling and dumping rules). Additionally, councils charge for parking and fine motorists hither and thither for all manner of rule infringements.

How many more taxes are we to endure before we tell Nanny and our EU overlords to fuck off?

Nanny Hates The Sun

I see that our old friends from Nice (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) have yet again issued a warning about sun tanning.

This time they say that there is no healthy way to get a natural tan, and that we should stay out of the sunlight. However, they then go on to say that we should avoid vitamin D deficiency and that sitting in the sun shielded by a window won't do the job of building up vitamin D.

As ever with Nanny and Nice, her one size fits all advice isn't worth the paper it is printed upon. In the UK, as we know, the number of sunny days per annum are somewhat "limited". Advice such as this merely produces hysterical media headlines, and a sigh from the rest of the population who will inevitably ignore the advice.

Doubtless in a few months Nice will issue a directive telling us that we are in danger of rickets etc because of vitamin D deficiencies!

Just ignore the advice, and use your common sense when outside.

#CamilaGate

As per the Telegraph:
"Alleway wasn’t especially keen to expose her subject as paranoid, narcissistic, belligerent, manipulative, self-pitying, evasive, irresponsible and needy. But Batmanghelidjh didn’t give her much other material to work with. A distressed voice behind the camera asked ever more journalistic questions about huge sums squandered on a private swimming pool, taxis, not to mention the money stuffed into brown envelopes so Kids Company clients could allegedly pay their drug dealers."

Prats of The Week - Birmingham City Council

Kudos to Birmingham City Council for demonstrating some first class prattery.

The council, for reasons best known to itself, has banned a group of amateur historians from taking pictures of the city's historic graves unless they apply in writing for permission on a ‘case by case’ basis.

Members of the Jewellery Quarter Research Trust in Birmingham had been compiling an online database of the many famous, and not so famous, people buried in the historic Warstone Lane and Key Hill Cemeteries.

The voluntary group’s website contains a database with lists of graves and in some cases biographies, obituaries and photographs or portraits of the deceased.

There is also a Google Street View-style 360-degree photographic tour of the cemeteries.

However, they have now been banned from taking photos of each gravestone unless they apply in writing for permission on a ‘case by case’ basis.

For why?

Here is a spokesman from the council explaining to ITV the council's "rationale":
"Permission for this request was declined on the basis that once this information is held by a third party then the council will have no control over how it may be used in future, without a formal agreement in place.
We have not asked for any existing photographs to be removed from the Jewellery Quarter Research Trust’s website. We have offered to work with the trust on a case-by-case basis and have advised them that a formal agreement will be required if they wish to photograph all memorials at both cemeteries."
What concern is to the council what people do with photographs of gravestones?

Is it now forbidden to take photographs of gravestones?

Birmingham City Council, well deserving Prats of The Week!

Cecil Rhodes

I am gemused to see that Oriel College Oxford has decided to ignore the spoilt, ignorant brats who want the statue of Cecil Rhodes torn down.

It is a pity that the college allowed this nonsense to drag on for so long.

My advice to leader of the rabble, who seems so incensed about Rhodes, is that if he is so incensed about Rhodes he should refund the scholarship funds that he receives as a Rhodes Scholar!

A Question of Governance - Auntie Castigated

Loyal readers know that I have been less than impressed with the Kids Company, and the clowns that were allegedly "in charge" of that clusterfuck of an organisation.

I am pleased to see that the Commons Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) have given that failed organisation, and its "leaders" a well deserved kicking.

Unsurprisingly the clown in chief, Camila Batmanghelidjh, denies everything and is quoted by the BBC saying that the report "is a product of bias and rumour".

Disregarding her delusions, the PACAC report also gives Yentob and Auntie a kicking too (as per this extract):
Auntie had better watch out, PACAC may well go after her next!
