Humourless Students II - Nanny Bans Crossdressing

Oh dear, it seems that the attack of "humourlessness" that has affected the students of Oxford University has spread to those who study at Exeter University.

For reasons best known to themselves, the leaders of the university's Student Guild, recently got their knickers in a twist over cross dressing and decreed that it could be deemed as offensive as ‘blacking up’.

Now, in my simple mind, I thought that students were rather open minded and that if chaps wished to put on dresses and ladies wished to put on trousers, then that would be perfectly acceptable so long as it didn't frighten the horses.

Apparently not, for it seems that some chaps want to dress up as ladies purely for fun (eg post sporting event or pre celebration).

As we know, "fun" has been banned by Nanny's humourless students!

Nanny's Student Guild was worried that cross dressing would be deemed insulting to ‘gender-queer’ students.
Quote:

The Guild is aware that there are several trans-identified students at Exeter and more who express their identity as gender-queer.

To parody this appearance is crass and offensive on the same level as ethnicity.

While 'blacking up' in various guises is not unlawful...by parodying an appearance you are taking on the public performance of a group of persons in a stereotypical or (sometimes) mocking way.

The Guild does not act in disciplinary fashion against members of the student body for performances of this nature, but we do express disapproval of unthinking and insulting appearances against minority student groups in particular - before you dress up in this fashion we would ask that you reconsider your actions and act in a culturally sensitive way so as not to give offence.

The Guild is not demanding that all such performances stop. We are merely asking for your consideration in making sure that your own individual behaviour is not harming, insulting or mocking another student."

On this basis I assume that "Little Britain", "The Two Ronnies", Danny La Rue films, all pantomimes etc etc are all banned on campus?

My advice to the students of Exeter, loosen up a bit; if you are this "anal" at your age, what will you be like when you are my age?

Prats of The Week - The Dangers of Standing Up To Scum

Prats of The WeekOoh, it has been a long time since I have awarded my prestigious and world famous "Prats of The Week" Award.

Time, I think, to make another award.

This week the award goes to Devon and Cornwall police.

For why?

Ask Alma Harding (a retired postmistress of 63), of Kenton Exeter, who tackled a yoof with that most dangerous of weapons, a rolled up copy of church council minutes.

Mrs Harding was returning from a church council meeting, and was crossing the village green. Thereupon she encountered some "lippy" 13 year old and his mates, who swore at her when she told them to stop playing football near some flowers that she had planted on the green.

Mrs Harding therefore remonstrated with them, and "brushed" the boy across his cheek with the paper.

Needless to say, this being Nanny Britain, the boy's mother felt that this was an affront to her son and lodged a complaint.

Mrs Harding now faces a police investigation into claims of common assault, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail.

Mrs Harding said:

"I have done nothing wrong. It would not have hurt the boy. It was only rolled up paper and I am a little old lady."

Devon and Cornwall police said Mrs Harding would be interviewed "in the next couple of weeks".

Shouldn't common sense dictate that this matter be dropped?

Devon and Cornwall police, well deserving Prats of The Week.

Nanny Bans Drinking Games

Nanny Bans Drinking Games
Drinking games have been part and parcel of youthful exuberance since mankind first learnt how to ferment alcohol. Indeed, the yard of ale has ben a fixture in pubs for centuries.

However, Nanny's chums in Exeter university recently decided that as a result of the death of a student from excess booze, these games are to be banned.

Gavin Britton, an 18 year old student at Exeter University, died after drinking a Jackson Five (12 shots of alcohol) during an evening of pub golf, where drinks are sunk in a 'par' number of swigs.

Exeter University have now banned drinking games and initiation ceremonies.

A spokesman said:

"There has been an effort to get other universities to follow suit."

Here's why this is not going to work:

1 Young people do stupid things, that's part of growing up

2 Banning these games will have no effect, they will simply continue "behind closed doors"

3 Many young people take part in these games without dying

4 Banning them will simply make them more attractive and appealing

5 Parents should teach their children to treat alcohol with respect, before they release them to university/society (ie take them down the pub etc)

Nanny's ban is, for once, well intentioned. However, it is not the answer and will not work.

Nanny Bans Lennon

Nanny Bans LennonOh dear, it seems that Nanny's puritanical feelings from the sixties have been reawakened.

In the sixties, you will recall, Nanny was very upset by all that dope smoking, free love and general disrespect towards God.

I was a mere child at that time, and missed out on all the doings.

Ho hum!

Anyhoo, in a sort of flashback, Nanny's teaching chums at St Leonards Primary in Exeter have decided that a John Lennon song ("Imagine") is anti-religious.

The pupils had spent weeks rehearsing the song for an end of term show. However, the head teacher and governors decided that it was anti-Christian and unsuitable for the school.

The dangerous lyrics include:

"Imagine there's no heaven... and no religion too."

Seems to me the world would be a much better place without religion. However, as my 3 miserable years in a Catholic school taught me I will undoubtedly burn in hell for that comment.

Head teacher Geoff Williams said a teacher approached him, because she did not think the song was appropriate.

The Rev David Harris, a school governor, said:

"The song expresses longing for a different world and for eternal happiness

but it says you can have this without religion
."

I would have thought that, if God exists, he doesn't give a stuff about your religion but how you behave towards others.

That being said, what do I know?; I am going to burn in hell.

Anyhoo, "Imagine" was replaced by "The Building Song".
