The Racism of Food

The Racism of Food
Now here's a thing that I had never realised before, until Nanny very kindly pointed it out. In my naive, happy go lucky 45 years on this planet I had assumed that people's likes and dislikes when it comes to food were down to what they had been brought up on, local availability and personal taste preferences.

How wrong was I!

Seemingly ones' choice of food, or rather what one chooses not to eat, is racist.

Gosh, I never knew that!

That at least is the conclusion of Nanny's National Children's Bureau (NCB), which has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care.

Seemingly racism is construed as a child of eg three who says "yuk", in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food.

The guidance also warns playgroup leaders that babies should not be ignored, as they can "recognise different people in their lives".

The NCB's dire warning come in an "easy to read" and doubtless "cheap" to produce 366 page guide for staff in charge of pre-school children, called Young Children and Racial Justice.

The guide warns that children might also "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk'".

Staff are told:

"No racist incident should be ignored. When there is a clear racist incident, it is necessary to be specific in condemning the action."

"Condemning action"?

Public flogging maybe?

Nurseries are told to report as many incidents as possible to their local council.

"Some people think that if a large number of racist incidents are reported, this will reflect badly on the institution. In fact, the opposite is the case."

Let us be clear, the NCB is encouraging the creation of a police state whereby people are proactively told to report every single "incident" to their local council.

Now you know what your local council is really for, thought crime reporting!

I have nothing but contempt for any organisation that encourages such behaviour. This bunch of fascists (NCB) takes £12M a year out of our pockets, in order to fund its perverted view of the world.

Let us be very clear, a child's attitudes to food are formed by what it is given to eat, and how the parent administers discipline at the dining table. The weaker the parent, the more fussy and spoilt the child.

Racism has nothing to do with it.

More idiocy from nanny. My kid is mixed race and says 'yuk' to jellied eels which I as a good Cockney lad love. Is he a racist? Perhaps I should start a petition to get my local council to insist that kids who turn their nose up at pie and mash, pork products or good old jellied eels should be reported.

    They're claiming otherwise here: http://www.ncb.org.uk/Page.asp?originx_6073ic_23555200356948j64k_2008772856u

    Ken,

Nanny is always right. I will turn my family into the local council fortwith for reeducation. Forced consumption of halal goat and five times praying to the east without complaint should make them happy.

This is above and beyond ridiculous. They're three years old for crying out loud!!!!!! How can they possibly be racist? Next thing you know they'll be building jail-nurseries for the 'offending' tots.

Ahh The thought police....It was only a matter of time!!

I feel this is one of the most sinister stories that we have had on NKB.

I was also born within the sound of Bow Bells but, I dislike Jellied Eels, so do I hate my peers?
I find the thought of a deep fried Mars bar quite awful....Does that make me anti Scotish?

Very few children, in my experience, like hot spicy food....Does that mean that most children are racist?
My old dog used to bark at black people....Is the dog racist? She also barked at people in hats...Does that make her, well, eh....?

I feel this is another case of people trying to justify their role.
Surely, any sensible person realises, as they write such a report, it is ridiculous.
Nanny makes us all fearful by, making us think there are racists everywhere, paedos behind every tree and terrorists in every town...a frightened society is easier to control and one that is frightened to speak or think is even easier to control.

Now, when the authorities receive a complaint about hate crimes....They assume that the crime is a hate crime and it is up to the accused to prove it is not, our legal system turned on it's head.
Now when Ms Kiddikeeper at the local council's nursery reports the two year old for daring not to like diverse cuisine, will the kid be taken to the police station for finger printing and DNA swabbing...Will the parents?

We are turning into a police state and Stalin would have loved to have been able to get away with some of the crazy rules and laws Nanny has managed to introduce to our green and pleasant land.

This is the really sinister bit.

  7. If this is the case then I expect my 5 year old daughters BNP application form to arrive in the post at any moment. If food isn't fish, chicken, pasta, potato, rice, carrot or broccoli based or doesn't contain so much sugar you become hyperglycaemic just looking at it then it is greeted with a resounding "Yuk!". Her best friend is exactly the same barring a dislike of broccoli. I wonder if the BNP take six year old girls of Indian origin too ?

One wonders if Nannys thought police will soon begin to stake out takeaways for reasons other than making sure the salt shakers only have five holes. Turn your nose up at Chicken Vindaloo and it's off to the re-education camps for you sunshine!

And the cretins in the Labour party wonder why the BNP is fast picking up votes!

  9. I have posted about this in anticant's arena:

    http://antarena.blogspot.com/2008/07/yuk-to-spicy-foods-is-racist-official.html

In the link provided by ciaran, the author of this tract says: ‘Children are like sponges and the early years of their lives are critical for helping them understand and learn to respect the opinions, differences, similarities and needs of others.’

She obviously considers herself an authority on 'racism' - the fashionable boo-word of the politically-correct multiculti classes, who fling it around indiscrimately to prevent honest discussion of differences in outlook, attitude and behaviour between people of different ethnic backgrounds.

The snag with this naive if well-meant approach is that there are some differences which are incompatible, and cannot be smoothed away by anodyne words like 'respect' and 'tolerance'.

The entire multiculti project is, thank goodness, rapidly disintegrating as more and more people come to recognise that far from promoting harmonious integration and tolerance of diversity, it has resulted in entrenchment of differences and, in some communities, an increasing trend toward ghettoisation.

We urgently need a more realistic political approach to this problem which starts from the recognition that some circles cannot be squared, and that you cannot mix oil and water or chalk and cheese.

As a matter of interest, while following ciaran's link, did anyone else notice the job advert for a 'Fund Raiser' at up to 24 grand a year?

[As it happens, years ago my kids used to hate brown Smarties - should I now dob them in?]

Social engineering pure and simple. Keep your kids out of the states hands for as long as you can!

Why can't these anti-racism fascists concern themselves with real racism, what is happening in Zimbabwe for example, instead of stirring up trouble where it doesn't exist? A 3 year old wouldn't know what racism was, if it jumped up and bit him or her on the leg! All children say 'Yuk!' or words to that effect, if they are offered food they don't like the look of. In my opinion, this National Childrens Bureau seems to be a very sinister organisation indeed, and should have all its public funding withdrawn with immediate effect.

    Bingo!

The social diversity, multicultural, tolerance engineers can hardly be expected to announce:

"You know, ladies and gentleman, we've done about all that we reasonably can to create a fair and unbiased society. We recognize that, beyond a certain point, additional policy measures are only going to increase friction between population groups, as well as make a muddle of any business or institutional enterprise, while doing nothing to reduce discriminatory attitudes.

As a society, we must endeavor to be fair, but we must also respect the bounds of human nature. A great many people will, for reasons rooted in evolutionary psychology, often prefer the company of "their own kind" however they may define this, to the company of others. We must insist that all members of society recognize the legal rights of others, but we cannot make them all like one another."

You might as well expect state supported artists to say: "As a society, we seem to have created all of the worthwhile art we're ever going to create, and everything else that we churn out from now on will be nothing but utter rubbish."

These people know which side their bread is buttered on, and we're never, ever, ever going to be tolerant enough, or diverse enough, non-judmental enough to suit them.

    Black Sea:

It seems that, what is obvious to you and I, is beyond the comprehension of Nanny.
I am a late miidle aged grandfather with a teenage grandaughter and two other younger grand kids, why would I wish to socialise with a seventeen year old hoodie? Why would that hoodie wish to socialise with me? We have nothing in common, although we may be of the same "race" we would still have different cultures would we not?
Why would I wish to socialise with someone, be they from a different race or not, that is completely different to me, surely, most friends are friends because they share your interests, culture, language etc etc. It is so blindingly obvious to all except the PC brigade, or perhaps they realise it too but, in the interest of self preservation, in relation to their perceived importance and income, they choose to ignore it.

My wife feels there should be a catagory of specialist questions on Mastermind called the "bleedin' obvious" round....This would stop local government workers, social workers and the police's senior management from ever winning the title!! I think she may have a point, what say you?

These sorts of schemes usually have the opposite effect to what’s desired.

A few years ago there was an ad for Korean cars. The ad implied that people didn’t buy them because they were Korean.

I didn’t buy the car in question because I thought it had all the charm, styling and aesthetic qualities of a biscuit tin on wheels, not because I was a racist.

But it left me thinking, ‘if they have to resort to those sorts of marketing techniques, it can’t be much of a car’.

As for the racism bit ....

Notwithstanding the major immigration issue in this country at present, racists and anti-racists tend to be two sides of the one coin (they just march behind different flags). Both revel in keeping the racist pot boiling and end up harming the ones they claim to want to help.

There was a recent case of a large racist poster appearing on a billboard in east London. It turned out to be paid for by some anti-racist league. Their excuse was: they were very concerned that people were forgetting about the threat of racism so they wanted to bring it to everyone’s attention!

    Absolutly mental.

Kids responding "yuk" to familiar food is a completly natural response. Its how we farking evolved for crying out loud.

We humans, as mammels, have evolved this response as part of the parent/child relationship where, in our acient tree-faring days before we evolved past dragging our knuckles along the ground (most of us anyway) the response was vital during the phase of life that mothers would teach their children what was good to eat and what to leave. if we didnt have that response hard coded into our DNA our natural curiosity would have lead to many of our ancestors poisoning themselves by deciding to eat brightly coloured frogs, yellow snow and other such things.

but i forget, nanny and her chums dont believe in evolution. in fact, their activly working to provent this atrocity called evolution from occuring ever again...
