Three Inches!

I know that Nanny has been pumping up the volume about the terror threat that we all face. However, I think that the security officers at Gatwick may have lost the plot a bit.

Julie Lloyd was flying back to Canada with a present for her husband, a plastic model of a Royal Signaller (the present, not her husband!) complete with a three inch plastic gun (no moving parts or trigger).

The toy was in her carry on luggage.

Can you guess what happened next children?

Yes, that's right, the security personnel told her it constituted a weapon and that she could not take it on board.

Rules is rules!

Tell me again then, if security is so tight, how is that an arms smuggler was able to conduct a thriving trade in real guns by importing them into the UK in his suitcase from the USA?

Anyhoo, Mrs Lloyd posted the toy from Gatwick instead and it arrived safely (by plane) a few days later!

  1. I think that much of the problem, in addition to the point made by Microdave, is that the contractors employ mindless drones, whose intellectual capabilities just about enable them to tie their own shoe laces and wipe their own arses, but are unable to think for themselves. The management of the security company will lay down proceedures for their drones to follow, with an instruction to never vary these proceedures with the threat of dismissal if they ever did and thus, you get the type of robots we so often see in these "frontline" roles. It's an attitude that is commo0n within local authorities, the security industry and supermarkets.....No place for commonsense here now.

Ahh......but correct procedure was followed and the relevant box ticked. No procedure or tick box for "common sense".

Brain-dead morons! Reminds me of that sketch in "Airplane" when airport security goons turn over an old lady and then allow to pass the following passenger laden with machine guns and ammo belts.

On second thoughts perhaps those in charge of security use it as a training film!

Words fail me (yet again)! Surely anyone with half a brain cell could work out that a 3 inch plastic gun, as described, constituted no threat whatsoever?

You asked, Ken, "Tell me again then, if security is so tight, how is that an arms smuggler was able to conduct a thriving trade in real guns by importing them into the UK in his suitcase from the USA?"

With this calibre of security, I am sure we all feel considerably safer!

That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest! Then again, let's be fair, these plonkers have to look as though they are actually doing something for a living, and we are being unreasonable in expecting them to put themselves at risk by tackling real criminals and terrorists! Much safer for the poor dears victimise innocent members of the public!

    Your tax money at work.

Seriously - it's impossible to make this dribble-dick jobsworth nonsense up.

It's easy to imagine how these useless bludgers' feral eyes lit up when the tedium of their deadspace "jobs" was broken by the sight of a deadly "toy gun".

I bet it was high-fives over the triple Yorkie bars and styrofoam coffee [6 sugars in mine, ta mate] in the staff room later that day.
