Last week, whilst drinking my breakfast juice, I was watching the BBC morning show and saw a discussion about the "new, improved" Noddy.
Seemingly, in these days of obesity and general porkiness, Noddy has been slimmed down (lest he become a corrupting influence).
Additionally, there is now no such thing as a "naughty" person/teddy bear/goblin etc.
For why?
Telling someone that they are "naughty" constitutes "victimisation" and "stereotyping".
Only actions can now be described as "naughty".

OK so claiming and pocketing dodgy expenses is naughty but being the person who does that is not. Did I get that right?
ReplyDeleteOr a young tearaway terrorising people is not a naughty person but the actions they take are naughty?
And we start to introduce this message at the earliest possible age?
Hmm.
I sincerely hope that when (not if) the expected power shortages develop the first thing that the government of the day does to attempt to bridge the gap will be to stop broadcasting TV and shut down the cable and satellite providers. Sure it will give them a problem deciding whether they are better off with blocking communication of information or using it to their advantage bit so what. At least this insidious indoctrination of the very young will be made slightly more difficult for them.
Word verification is "prama".
Spooky how they always seem to offer a string of letters at least part of which could be construed as being related to the subject matter of the post, no matter how tangentially.
Sadly, none of the new PC versions of classic children's TV programmes are likely to inspire children. It never ceases to amaze me how quick the PC brigade are prepared to throw away and re-write our history....Yes, perhaps some of the attitudes and views expressed in some programmes may be old fashioned but, that doesn't necessarily make them wrong.....Perhaps it could be used as a starting point for a classroom discussion as to how society and attitudes have changed over the last couple of decades. Political correctness is killing our society and our country, it is time to say enough is enough.
ReplyDeleteWarning; Old kids TV programmes may contain mild peril; Enjoy kids programmes responsibly.
What will Nanny do about the "naughty" stool now if "naughty" can only be used to describe an action? Will there be a diktat forbidding the use of the phrase? Or will children be forbidden from sitting on one lest they put 2 and 2 together when placed on one and believe they are naughty?
ReplyDeleteMore 'progressive liberal' pish designed to emasculate the existing societal structures and replace them with nanny...
ReplyDeleteAre we really surprised when we read about the criminal actions of some 'feral yoof', given that the state has done everything in its power to eliminate the pillars of discipline and justice in this country?
I was in a well known supermarket chain a few months ago when this woman who was in the checkout queue had just reprimanded her son (about 4) with a tap to the back of his hand. I'd passed her a few times up and down the isles and had seen his behaviour progressively deteriorate. I'm surprised she was so restrained.
So I see the woman behind me in the queue, look on the smacking with obvious disapproval on her face. So i said 'If she doesn't discipline him now, then in 15 years time he'll end up being the one who jumps on your husbands head after trashing his car'...
I'm not sure she got it...

So, does Noddy still have a friend called 'Big Ears' and weren't there evil golliwogs? Am I behind and this post is about a revised revised Noddy?
ReplyDeleteDoes he still have a car? Not long before that's got rid of in 'Noddy Saves The Planet'.
Jay
Christ this is bollocks, was more impressed by the random word verification which was 'imacs', how applicable.
ReplyDeleteArf
I see, so Adolf Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot etc were not evil b******s but were actually rather nice people: it was just some of their activities which were rather 'naughty'? What a load of b**l s**t!

Too right it is, the children's programmes you describe are far superior to the crap children are force-fed now!

Yes, Jay, in the original stories there were indeed 'evil golliwogs'. However, in Nanny's brave new, sterile, politically correct world they were the first to be removed, and replaced by 'monkeys' I think, a few years ago.

How did that get such negative attitudes towards animals past PETA?
What really puzzles me, now that I think about it, is why they would bother to re-visit Noddy at all if it is so much in need of change. Today;s kids will have no idea about it in the first place so why not some typical new pap to 'entertain' them?
Maybe the system is producing people who are simply not creative enough? Perhaps I should say clueless?
