Nanny Bans The Swedish Chef

My thanks to a loyal reader who pointed me to a story regarding my old residence (1996-2000) of Sweden, wherein Swedish Nanny has got her knickers into a twist over the most excellent cooking of Annica Eriksson, a school dinner lady at a school in Falun.

The local council ("municipality") has banned her from cooking certain dishes.

For why?

They are too good!

Pupils at her school regularly dine on freshly baked bread and an assortment of 15 vegetables.

Sounds good, yes?

So what is the problem?

Well you see folks Sweden practices (so it claims) "equality" (the price of a social democratic system), wherein everyone is meant to be equal and treated equally. The result of this being an unfortunate flaw in the Swedish psyche; namely that if a Swede sees another Swede doing rather well for him/herself, the green eyed monster raises its ugly head (ie jealousy).

The local Nanny council banned Ms Eriksson from cooking certain dishes, because Nanny knows that other schools in the area don't eat as well and deemed it "unfair".

Now in the real world competition often improves the quality of services or products that people receive. However, in Nanny's world it is easier to simply hold people back from doing their best; because Nanny doesn't want to (or can't) make the effort to improve.

Katarina Lindberg, head of the unit responsible for the school diet scheme, told the local Falukuriren newspaper:
"A menu has been developed... It is about making a collective effort on quality, to improve school meals overall and to try and ensure everyone does the same." .
As you can see, the state is doing its best (as it always tries to do) to hold people back from improving their lives.

Ms Eriksson is not best pleased:
"It has been claimed that we have been spoiled and that it's about time we do as everyone else."
From now on the school's vegetable buffet will be halved in size, and Ms Eriksson's handmade loafs will be replaced with store-bought bread.

Her traditional Easter and Christmas smörgåsbords may also be under threat!

As I have noted many times before, councils (wherever they are based) are the enemies of the people!

Times Have Changed?

Back in the 50's and the 60's it was commonplace for those who rented out rooms to openly discriminate against those whom they did not wish to rent their rooms to, eg "No Irish" would be added to some room for rent adverts.

Move forward many decades and such blatant discrimination is both illegal and would be, quite rightly, frowned upon.

So everything is now hunky dory then?

Not quite, for you see there seems to have been a reversal whereby the anti discrimination rules are being flouted by certain landlords.

The BBC reports the following:
"Today overt racial discrimination is both illegal and socially unacceptable.

But it is now possible to find advertisements seeking tenants for rented accommodation which specify race, or other characteristics, in a way which some experts believe breaks the law.

Newsagents in different areas of London carry adverts saying:
  • "Double bedroom available… Asian only"
  • "Double room to let Gujarati (Indian) only"
  • Close to the station and bus stops (Filipino only)
  • "Professional single lady or Sri Lanka professional couple"
  • "House for rent… only Asian families""
I wonder whether Nanny will intervene to put a stop to this?

Even if Nanny attempted to prosecute these people for discrimination, she would fail in the long run.

People can simply get around the law by placing an advert on a site catering for their own group, eg students, Indians or feminists. They can put a notice up in a foreign language, thus excluding anyone who eg can't read Hebrew, Bengali or Polish.

Failing that, they can also simply wait for the responses and filter applicants.

Nanny has yet to learn that you cannot legislate against private hypocrisy and innate/silent prejudice, she can only legislate against blatant and open/vocal prejudice/hatred. The innate/silent prejudice will only be overcome when people learn to live together and recognise/respect each others' shortcomings and strengths.

Sadly we may have to evolve into higher beings, free of religious, racial and sexual tribalism, before that becomes commonplace!

Knobheads

There are times when even Nanny exceeds herself in her "knobheadedness", this is one of those times as Anna Farquhar (Chairman of a health watchdog Wiltshire Involvement Network - WIN) found to her cost last August.

Mrs Farquhar was chairing a public meeting and, when referring to gossip about NHS changes, used the phrase:

"You cannot help the jungle drums".

Problem with that anyone?

However, a certain Sonia Carr, member of the Wilstshire Racial Equality Council, had an enormous problem (in her own mind) about it and declared it to be racist.

Mrs Farquhar immediately apologised for any offence.

Fair enough?

Not if you are Mrs Carr, she felt that an apology was not nearly good enough and submitted an official complaint to Wiltshire Council.

Nice to see people have nothing better to do with their lives!

The council, at great cost to the local taxpayers, produced a 10 page report, and barred all members of WIN from council premises and meetings. It also withdrew funding to cover the group's administration costs.

Mrs Carr remains remarkably unrepentant and claims that Mrs Farquhar's apology was inadequate, and that watchdog members needed training on "equality and diversity issues".

The council will meet WIN leaders to explain why it upheld this ludicrous complaint.

BTW, the council is Tory!

To make matters worse, it seems that the council have decreed that it is against the law to "offend" anyone.

John Thomson, deputy leader, is quoted in The Mail:

"The law makes it clear that what matters is not the intention of the person who uses the phrase but whether anybody is offended by it."

Bollocks!

You can offend whoever you like, if you are prepared to get a punch in the face. Comedians do it all the time, and are paid for doing it.

This is a complete waste of time and money, and a very poor reflection of the underlying agenda (increased state control and bigger government) of our coalition government.

Here is John Thomson's email address john.thomson@wiltshire.gov.uk, feel free to tell him what you think.

Best Job Advert Ever

Fuckwits
My thanks to "Black Sea" for highlighting this U. S. Department of Justice job advert for "10 experienced attorneys for the position of Trial Attorney".

Quote:

"The Civil Rights Division encourages qualified applicants with targeted disabilities to apply. Targeted disabilities are... mental retardation, mental illness..."

I assume that this style of advert will soon be taken up by Nanny here, given that some of our "governing class" already exhibit signs of mental illness.

The Pope Touched My Thigh

Pope RatzingerI am "gemused" to see that the tireless campaigner for women's rights and equality for all, Harriet Harperson, has watered down her "Equality Bill" following divine intervention from Pope Ratzinger.

Seemingly Harperson and ZaNuLabour don't want to go to war with "holy mother church", most especially when the Pope is coming to Britain during an election year.

I realise that Blair believes that the Pope is inflammable etc but, given that he has gone and was responsible for a disastrous fanatical holy war in the Middle East, I would have thought that ZaNuLabour would have shaken free of the shackles of religious fundamentalism by now.

Evidently not!

Politics and religion should be kept separate at all times.

Prats of The Week - Sunbed Wars

Prats of The WeekIt is a wet and windy Monday morning here in Engerlund, and as such it is time for my prestigious "Prats of The Week" Award.

This week my heartfelt congratulations to the passengers of P&O's 77,000-ton Oceana liner who reported Christopher Wells, the skipper, to the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

For why?

There has been something of an ongoing spat on board over the use and reservation of sunloungers. A habit that is normally associated with Germans holidaymakers had spread to the passengers of the Oceana (none of whom were German), whereby towels and knickknacks are placed on the sun loungers in order to reserve them for use several hours later.

It is of course a thoroughly selfish habit, as more often than not the lounger remains unoccupied for several hours.

Passengers became increasingly narked over the lack of available sunbeds on the Oceana during their 15 day cruise of the Caribbean last month; all manner of objects used to reserve the sunloungers - towels, books, bags and clothes etc.

It became so bad that Capt Wells imposed a 20-minute limit on sunbeds being left unoccupied, and made several announcements to try to end the so-called "sunbed wars".

Needless to say, the passengers ignored him. There were increasingly heated rows between the passengers over the reservation of the sunloungers.

Eventually Capt Wells (who is married to a German) told the ship's 2,000 passengers:

"We don't want that kind of Germanic behaviour here!"

Clearly the point hit home, ie it was a well judged observation, and some reported him to the watchdog.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission has launched an inquiry, and Capt Wells has been forced to apologise for causing offence.

I was brought up by my parents to deal with petty matters myself, and not to report ("tell") on people to others. Nanny teaches people to report to the state, and related bodies; by this means she keeps us under control, as we fear that our neighbours, colleagues and friends may in fact be spying for her.

The passengers who reported him are well deserving of this week's "Prats of The Week" Award.

My advice to them is to grow up and deal with the matter yourselves, don't bring others into your petty and selfish arguments.

Nanny Bans White Men

Nanny Bans White Men
Nanny really has something of a bee in her bonnet about social engineering. She can't resist trying to mould society into the shape and form that she thinks it should be.

The trouble is that her meddling is not based on any form of logic or common sense, and does immeasurable harm to society and its cohesiveness.

Seemingly, in Nanny's view, there are just too many white men working as firemen (sorry, "firepersons"). The fact that if your house is burning down, you wouldn't give a stuff as to the sexual/genetic make up of the people trying to save you and your house has escaped Nanny.

To this end, Nanny's chums in Avon Fire Service recently held some "open" days for recruiting more people to the force. The trouble is that these "open" days were not quite so "open".

Why?

Avon Fire Service banned white men from attending them.

Why?

The trolls who run Avon Fire service are worried about their "diversity" targets, and restricted the "open" days to women and ethnic minorities.

Two of the six-hour sessions have been limited to women and ethnic minorities. Another was for women only and a fourth was laid on exclusively for ethnic minorities.

How farking stupid and patronising!

How exactly does this absurd ban help the community, women or ethnic minorities?

Kevin Pearson, the brigade's chief officer, said:

"It is my concern to improve diversity so the service reflects the community it serves and we can provide the best possible service."

No!

Your job is to put fires out!

Avon was aiming for 15% of its staff to be female, and 3% to come from ethnic minorities.

What about targets for reducing the number of fires?

Utter madness!

"I'm the bad guy?"

Nanny Bans Dummy

Nanny Bans DummyNanny's strict rules about racial/sexual diversity don't just apply to people, they apply to dummies too.

In Nanny's world we are all equal, even the dummies.

Thus it has come to pass that the police mascot, known as Steve, has been labelled by Nanny's lickspittles as being too male and white.

PSCO Steve was created by the Metropolitan Police to visit primary schools. Unfortunately Steve is male and white. Nanny hates white males, because they represent a part of society that she cannot understand and will not accept.

Therefore the Met has been ordered to spend £15K of our money replacing Steve with non male non white alternatives.

The much "respected" and "popular" head of the Met, Sir Ian Blair said:

"These characters will be more representative

of London's population and the diverse range of police personnel
."

FYI, the original PCSO Steve costume was based on a real person (Sutton borough police community support officer Stephen King). Unfortunately Nanny hates reality, and prefers instead to create and live in a fictional world.

Pc Geoff Parker, who works in Islington, thinks that the whole idea is bollocks.

Quote:

"One of the things that is damaging our job

and our relations with the community is this

constant overbearing political correctness.

We seem to be taking the issue to the extreme,

and pandering to every whim and gripe.

We need to take a sensible approach to this

and stop over-reacting
."

A foolish waste of money and effort, but when did Nanny ever worry about wasting money?

Prat of The Week

Prat of The WeekThere have been such a slurry of "Prats of The Week" that I have got rather behind myself on this award, can I get behind myself???

Anyhoo, this week's prestigious and coveted "Prat of The Week" Award goes to Trevor Phillips the chairman of the Commission for Equalities and Human Rights.

He recently got rather hot under the collar over the ethnic make up of the workforce of local supermarkets, and has suggested that they should be forced to recruit more ethnic minorities by positive discrimination.

Phillips said that retailers should have new powers making it is easier to attract employees, to reflect the make-up of their local communities.

Phillips wants new powers for his organ (The Commission for Equalities and Human Rights) to permit positive discrimination to prevent jobseekers from migrant communities being disadvantaged.

He claimed that firms, such as Tesco and Sainsbury, wanted greater flexibility to hire staff.

This is of course where it all came unstuck, for you see Tesco immediately said that he was talking bollocks. They noted that his comments were 'unfair and discriminatory'.

Surely, as Chairman of Commission for Equalities and Human Rights, he can't be unfair or discriminatory?????

The British Retail Consortium, which represents thousands of shops, noted the obvious flaw in Phillips' argument:

"Because shop staff tend to work relatively near

where they live they are already likely to reflect

their local communities but retailers will continue

to recruit on ability to do the job not on race.

Trevor Phillips seems to be calling for retailers

to be allowed to discriminate in favour of particular groups.

That means discriminating against others.

We believe retailers will reject this sort of

unfairness and go on recruiting on merit alone
."

Exactly, given the low paid nature of supermarket work, the people who work in supermarkets tend to live locally. It would hardly be cost effective for them to commute several hours a day to go to work would it?

Congratulations on your award Trevor!

Nanny Bans Photos

Nanny Bans Photos
In Nanny's world we are all equal.

However, owing to Nanny's dislike of what she perceives to be "unfair" advantages (eg sex, age, looks, race, religion, class, education etc), Nanny tries to skew the rules in order to ensure that some are more equal than others.

Rather Orwellian wouldn't you say?

This habit of Nanny's, to try to distort (sorry "level") the playing field, ignores a fundamental principle of genetic and social evolution; namely, we are all different and gifted with our own specific sets of good/bad attributes which affect the way that we interact with others and how others perceive us.

That's life, get over it!

Anyhoo, Nanny takes her rule bending to some extraordinarily silly lengths at times; I wonder if she ever stops to think how ridiculous she appears?

No, of course she doesn't.

However, I digress, one recent example of Nanny's obsession with the unattainable goal of "equality" was aptly demonstrated by her lackeys in the University and College Union (UCU).

UCU recently held an election, for the UCU general secretary, members of its board of trustees and special committees. However, the officials of UCU became worried that voters may be influenced by a candidate's looks (for good or bad).

Can you guess what happened next?

Yes, that's right, UCU banned the 100 candidates from including their photos with the official details of their policies etc.

Kate Heasman, UCU equality officer (why do we need jobs such as this?), said:

"Photos are a distraction and we should

not be basing decisions on how people look
."

Herein lies the problem, Nanny doesn't get that there is a world of difference between what we "should do" and the real world where what we "actually do" rules.

Needless to say some members believe that this policy is utter bollocks.

Fawzi Ibrahim, a lecturer at the College of North London, said that UCU is "out of touch with reality".

Much like the Neo Cons in the US, Nanny lives in a make believe world where her view of the world and her rules dominate; conveniently ignoring the actuality of human interaction (for good or bad).

White Is Shite

White Is Shite
Almost as if the news stories are designed to link together (who could ever accuse media organs of doing that?) it seems that Nanny has legislated against the concept of "white is right".

Nanny's new operational phrase is "white is shite".

That at least is the case for people living in Corby Northamptonshire.

Nanny has decided to denude Corby of some public sector jobs, because its residents are "too white and British".

There you go folks...in Nanny's Britain it is now official policy for it to be illegal to be white and British!

Nanny's much "respected" Prison Service will relocate jobs from Corby to Leicester, where there are more ethnic minorities.

The decision is regarded by most sane people as being utter bollocks, and as such the Commission for Racial Equality may well launch an investigation.

It seems that Nanny, having pushed for people from around the world to move to Britain (to shore up our rapidly declining public sector) is now worried that ethnic minorities are in fact not as "fully employed" as they should be. As such, Nanny is trying to buck market forces and boost the number of ethnic minorities working in the public sector.

When the issue of the movement of 80 jobs in the Prison service to Leicester was raised, the director of finance Ann Beasley replied that the town had too many white British residents.

Quote:

"Our ability to attract a more diverse workforce

- 93.7 per cent of the population of Corby are white British,

compared to 59.6 per cent in Leicester
."

Mrs Beasley seemingly went on to imply that Corby's residents are also too stupid to keep the jobs.

The Home Orifice doesn't give a fark, and states quite baldly that attracting a "more diverse workforce" was a "key factor" in moving the jobs.

This is of course a breach of the Race Relations Act 2000.

A spokesman for the Commission for Racial Equality said that if they receive a complaint from any of the workers involved, they will start a full investigation.

Let us trust that at least one affected employee makes a complaint.

A Prison Service spokesman said:

"The key factors that influenced our decision to relocate

to Leicester were the closer proximity to a greater number

of prison establishments, better transport links,

the ability to recruit professional staff

and the ability to attract a more diverse workforce
."

This absurd policy will all end in tears, for Nanny and for the people of Britain (whatever their ethnic origin); as it is sowing the seeds of anger, resentment and division.

Nanny's Segregated Swimming Pool

Nanny's Segregated Swimming PoolI wonder sometimes if Nanny really understands what she stands for. On the one hand she pushes her pet subjects of "diversity awareness", "tolerance" and "quotas". However, then she comes along and does something like this which flies in the face of tolerance and equality.

Rather "surprisingly" (look closely folks, you will find I am being a tad "ironic" with my use of that word), my own local borough of Croydon (see www.croydoniscrap.com for all about Croydon) have put their two left feet firmly in the sh*t on this one.

It seems that Croydon Council have decided that the local Muslim community are not being treated fairly, when it comes to swimming facilities. As such Nanny's chums on the council have decreed that Thornton Heath (a part of Croydon) swimming pool should hold Muslim only sessions on a Sunday afternoon.

As if that were not bad enough, the sessions are for men only.

A triple whammy!

Racist, religioust and sexist, to boot!

Nice going Nanny.

The men only swimming sessions are held for two hours every week in Thornton Heath swimming pool, in fact they have been doing so for a year now.

I should point out that non Muslim men may swim during this time. However, they must follow a dress code akin to bathing in the Victorian age; swimming shorts must hide the navel and extend below the knee.

Daniel Foley, a regular at Thornton Heath, said:

"I turned up and saw a sign saying it was closing early for Muslim afternoon

I couldn't believe it
."

Croydon Mosque says:

"Muslims are not allowed to show intimate parts of their body.

This is non-negotiable.

Muslims have as much right to go swimming as anyone else
."

A spokesman for Croydon Council said:

"We are keen to ensure sporting facilities in the borough

are accessible to the whole community.

We appreciate that certain religious groups,

such as Muslims, have strict rules on segregation

for activities including sports,

so in response to requests from the local community,

we have been running these sessions at Thornton Heath Leisure Centre

for the past year,

with a women-only session on Saturday evening and a male-only session on Sunday evening.

These have been successful and well attended.

Croydon is not unique in offering such sessions

to minority communities, many local authorities do the same.

We are not giving preference to any one group

but simply taking practical steps to create access to all
."

A few facts here:
  • Local authorities collect council taxes from all residents, in order to provide services and facilities for all residents without fear or favour to any one group. The segregation is clearly discriminatory, as it denies many people access to the facility on a Sunday afternoon.

  • Many people in South Africa and America fought and died for the right to sit in the front of the bus, to attend the same schools and to swim in the same pools as everyone else. Croydon's policy is segregation, pure and simple; it is a retrograde step which will alienate the Muslim and non Muslim communities.

  • It has taken centuries for Britain to develop the freedom and civil liberties, that we should be rightly proud of. We will not throw those centuries of toil and sacrifice away simply to placate those who are intolerant and bigoted.
Those who will not accept mixing with their fellow British citizens in a communal facility (funded by the community), and who seek to commandeer that facility, should consider their future in this country.

Period!

Division and segregation lead to suspicion and intolerance.

Intolerance and bigotry are not welcome.

This is non-negotiable.

Feel free to write to Croydon Council here Croydon Council

Here is a list of councillors, and their email addresses Councillors

Give them my love:)

I would write to them myself, but they have steadfastly ignored very single communication that I have ever sent to them. So much for local democracy!

Whilst you are about it, why not drop Bliary Poppins a note too? He has been banging on about Muslims needing to integrate more, this segregation is surely a contradiction of his stated policy is it not?

Write to the PM here Bliary Poppins.

Prat of The Week

Prat of The WeekThis week's prestigious "Prat of The Week Award" goes to Cymuned, the Welsh rights pressure group.

Earlier this month they came out in favour of a bizarre piece of small mindeness and stupidity, being practiced by a parking attendant at the Royal Victoria Hotel in Llanberis.

Seemingly the parking attendant doesn't much care for English people, that's nice isn't it?

He decided to practice a little bit of racial discrimination, which Nanny heartily disapproves of, and charge English visitors twice as much as the Welsh to use the same car park.

Should you have been in the "enviable" position of being able to speak the well known internationally useful language of Welsh, he would have only charged you £2; those English people who didn't speak Welsh were charged £4.

The car park is used largely by tourists travelling on the Snowdon Mountain Railway. A motorist speaking Welsh asked the cost of parking.

The attendant said:

"Well, it's half price for Welsh people."

Nanny's chums in the Commission for Racial Equality are looking into the dual pricing policy at the car park.

Tourists and residents who do not speak the language, have already accused car park bosses of "blatant discrimination".

Businessman Philip Wesley said:

"I was completely stunned

because I saw the motorist in front being charged less.

When I raised it with the attendant

he told me the driver had a season ticket

and was therefore eligible for a half-price reduction.

He said all this with a knowing smirk
."

Another motorist said:

"This is blatant discrimination

not just against the English

but also non-Welsh speakers

who have lived in North Wales all their lives
."

However, Cymuned came out in favour of this daft idea.

Aran Jones, chief executive of the group, said:

"This attendant need congratulating, without a doubt.

The idea of charging local people lower prices

for local facilities is not uncommon in other parts of the world.

This is also a price not just for local people,

but people from outside the area who make the effort

to speak a bit of Welsh in a Welsh area.

I am sure tourist attractions,

which are keen to keep attendances high throughout the year,

would see a huge difference in their figures

if they were to charge less for local people,

who would go through the year.

I am 100% in favour of making measures like this

more widespread across the region
."

Evidently Jones doesn't travel very much. I don't quite recall ever seeing the good people of Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark etc etc ever operating a dual charging policy to their tourists.

Why not?

Errrrmmm...simple really, they would drive the tourists away if they did that, and damage their local economy.

Clearly Cymuned haven't quite grasped the basic concept of making people feel welcome, and of encouraging tourism to help the local economy.

Fair enough, if they don't want tourists to go there then tourists shouldn't go there!

It's that simple!

Then they will see first hand the effects on the local economy, when the receipts from the accursed English tourists dry up.

I think the Prat of The Week Award is well deserved in this particular case.

Money Well Spent

Money Well Spent!

Nanny loves to spend money, or rather she loves to spend our money.

In Nanny's world what's ours is hers, and what's hers is hers!

Congratulations are due to Birmingham City Council for finding new ways of wasting the taxpayers' money. It was reported earlier this money that Ian Smith, one of its workers, is being paid an annual wage of £91,000 despite having been off sick for a year.

Mr Smith is employed by the council's Street Lighting Direct Labour Organisation as a "signals operative", and receives a basic salary of £71,000 and bonuses totalling £21,000 from Birmingham City Council.

Quite a decent wage for a "signal operative", whatever that is?

What's even more impressive is that he has been off sick for a year.

Ah, but you see he is also the department's full-time representative for the Amicus union. The leaders of "the Brothers" must be looked after mustn't they?

Seemingly Mr Smith also received an annual "standby bonus" - paid to lighting engineers to be on call to repair lights at anti-social hours - of £16,000, even though he no longer repairs lights.

A spokesman for Birmingham City Council said that parts of their pay structure were based on outdated employment practice, and were "clearly not fit for purpose".

No shit?

In other words they know that they are wasting your money, but can't be arsed to do anything about it.

In addition to spending vast sums on one man's lighting skills, Birmingham City Council also pay roadworkers up to £53,000 a year for painting lines and cleaning bollards.

Great!

Where do I sign on?

I fancy a spot of therapeutic painting.

Councillor Alan Rudge, the cabinet member for equalities and human resources (another daft council title), said:

"The Council is dealing with the issue through the recognised trade unions.

It is currently in discussions with these groups

and with other organisations who are representing employees.

The Council is carrying out a pay review

in accordance with a national agreement

between councils and trade unions.

The City Council has an implementation date for this

review of 1st April 2007.

The review will deal with, among other things,

the equality and fairness of pay across the workforce.

We cannot continue with pay and grading structures

that are in some areas outdated, unfair and inflexible,

no matter how difficult the change may be
."

Call me a cynic...you're a cynic Ken!

However, doesn't that sound to you like they are only dealing with this now because they have been caught out by the media?

I guess the Brothers in the unions could threaten to go on strike, but would anyone really notice if they did?

As I keep repeating, what is the farking point of our local councils?

All they do is waste money, and impose useless and unwanted petty rules on the rest of us.

Abolish them!

Vent your spleen on Birmingham City Council via this link: Twats

In other news, it seems that John Prescott is costing £18M to run, even though he now has no role in government or society.

Nanny, spending our money on her behalf!

Nanny Bans PC

Nanny Bans PCNanny has managed to get her knickers into a bit of a twist the other week.

Oh dear!

It seems that all the rules and edicts that she has been issuing are becoming a little bit contradictory, and causing Nanny to hang herself on her own petard.

How sad!

Kirklees metropolitan borough council found this out to their cost earlier this month, when they tried to issue training document for their employees in which the term "political correctness" was banned.

Unfortunately the document has had to be withdrawn, as it is too politically correct!

So, the document bans you from saying the phrase "politically correct". However, the document itself has been banned because it is too politically correct.

Errm...got that?

The 44 page policy book, entitled "Equality Essentials", was drawn up as a guide for the council's 18,000 staff in West Yorkshire.

As befitting Nanny's Orwellian view of the world, certain words were banned as a matter of course; chairman, fireman and policeman because they exclude women, and "ethnic" because it was not felt to be "appropriately descriptive".

You know the routine, the same old shit that is used by councils, quangos and other crappy useless pseudo state "organs" to try to control people!

Remember folks, as Orwell warned (and as I keep reminding you), when the state controls the language, and your ability to express yourself, it also controls your ability to think for yourself.

The hapless employees of the council, or should I say employees of the taxpayer, were also instructed to come up with at least 10 things they could do on a daily basis to make colleagues feel better.

By the way the document was produced by officials for the former Lib-Dem/Green coalition, that previously controlled the council, so it is hardly surprising that it is a waste of space.

Guess what folks?

They used a 1950s study into the social psychology of Nazi Germany, known as Allport's Scale!

Why am I not surprised that the Nazis would somehow or other feature in this story?

Seemingly the good old boys on the council wanted to find out about levels of harassment and bullying in the workplace.

Anyhoo, the document stated:

"Use of the phrase 'political correctness' is at best factual avoidance

and at worst a direct physical attack
."

Robert Light, who became council leader after the Conservatives took control in the summer, thought that the whole thing was a load of bollocks and decided to revise the policy.

He said that 99% of the document was common sense, but certain items were "part of a politically correct culture" previously adopted by the authority.

Quote:

"We want to be known as a progressive council not a PC council."

Therefore the document has been banned, on the grounds that it was too politically correct, which in itself is of course a contradiction.

Maybe Nanny has brought us into some weird form of parallel universe where paradoxes can exist simultaneously.

Oooh!

Cue the Twilight Zone Theme!

Pity that the taxpayers of Kirklees had to pay for this pile of shite in the first place.

Will the previous council leaders apologise for wasting the taxpayers' money?

Will they fark!

Plod's Discrimination

Plod's DiscriminationDear old Nanny really loves to try to re-engineer society, by artificially "skewing" demographics to suit her political dogma. Unfortunately history has shown that whenever governments try to "manage" reality, and impose their view of a perfect society, things go horribly wrong.

Despite the lessons of history, Nanny still keeps trying. A recent case in point being Nanny's chums in the Gloucestershire Constabulary who rejected 108 potential recruits because they were white men.

Now Nanny's coppers have come a cropper (Ha!..come on, I'm doing my best here folks!), they have admitted positive discrimination and have been forced to pay compensation.

Gloucestershire Constabulary claimed that that it had been trying to increase diversity, by selecting only women and candidates from ethnic minorities. That is all very well, but the average citizen in Britain (be he/she black, white, green or purple) would prefer to have police officers who could do their job rather than police officers who fit an artificial racial/sexual specification.

I would also note that discrimination on the grounds of race or sex is in fact illegal.

Don't they teach the police the law then?

Needless to say Nanny's chums, when faced with an employment tribunal in Bristol, had to own up to the fact that they were in fact breaking the law.

Happy with the fact that the police admit that they have been breaking the law?

I'm not!

The tribunal was told that Matt Powell, had applied to join the force in October 2005. A month later, after being told that he had progressed to the second stage of the recruitment process, he left his job as an IT team leader at Filton College to concentrate on his application.

In January 2006 he received a letter saying that he had been "randomly deselected". He was never given an explanation for his rejection.

In April the Commission for Racial Equality and the Equal Opportunities Commission started an investigation. They reported that the force had unlawfully discriminated on the grounds of race and sex.

The tribunal was told that 66% of white men, who applied to join the force last year, had been turned down. Every ethnic minority candidate who applied had been invited to an assessment centre.

Nanny has agreed to £2500 pay compensation to Mr Powell, and may now expect claims from the other 107 men, who were told by the force that they had been "randomly deselected".

Clive Tomer, chairman of the tribunal, said that Gloucestershire Constabulary had been

"at the very least disingenuous and at worst misleading".

In other words, they had lied.

Happy with the fact that the police lied?

I'm not!

Gordon Ramsey (not the chef), the head of human resources, said:

"We were trying to advance diversity in the force

and we thought at the time that this was lawful,

positive action.

When we found out after an independent investigation

by the Commission for Racial Equality that it wasn't lawful,

we accepted that
."

I find that hard to believe that they didn't know that discrimination is illegal.

Do you believe them?

Nanny Bans Pet

Nanny Bans PetNanny revealed her Orwellian control tendencies again recently, by trying to have yet another go at the language that we speak.

Orwell warned in his seminal (can I say seminal?) book "1984" that dictatorships like to control the language, because by controlling the language they can control what we think.

Anyhoo, this time Nanny is mounting an assault on the Geordie language, as spoken by the good people of Newcastle.

Staff at Newcastle City Council have been banned from saying things such as "alreet pet", "howay hinny" and "take care love".

Why?

In Nanny's view, these phrases are just too offensive.

The decision was publicised recently at an equality and diversity training course, another spectacular waste of taxpayers' money!

"Pet", "hinny", "love", "darling" and "sweetheart" are now all banned.

As one worker said:

"If you are dealing with the elderly,

they have been brought up with those words all their life,

and I have been brought up with my family using those words.

It's like they are trying to kill the Geordie language
."

Shop manager Ben Sehgal, who runs New Image in South Shields Market Place, said:

"I get called 'pet' by women all the time.

It's a local thing that everyone understands.

It's not sexist at all
."

The astute amongst you will have noticed that Mr Sehgal is a bloke.

Newcastle City Council were rather stung by these reports, and have seemingly backtracked on the ban; ie they have denied it:

"There is no ban on words, such as hinny, pet, love or darling.

The point made to council staff during equality and diversity training

is that they must make a judgement before using these words

as to whether they are likely to offend the person they are directed to.

In the vast majority of cases these would not offend

but we want our staff, as part of the equality and diversity training,

to be sensitive to the needs of those in all of our communities
."

Feel free to send Newcastle City Council your own colloquialisms via this link Newcastle.

Nanny Bans Tartan Army

Nanny Bans Tartan ArmyIn the last couple of days I have written about Nanny banning all things English, and attributed this in part to her hatred of the English.

How wrong I was, evidently she is just as anti Scots as she is anti English.

Nanny's chums in the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE), the body that ensures that we all live in harmony with each other (just like the old Coke advert of the 1960's), have started to fret about the effects that the World Cup (I believe it starts tomorrow) will have on the Scottish persona.

Seemingly Nanny is worried that the Scots will offend their neighbours in the South, during this forthcoming "bung fest", by being a tad anti English.

Evidently the CRE (Scotland branch-isn't that racist in itself?) has received complaints about perceived anti-English sentiment in the last fortnight or so. Nanny won't stand for that, and issued a proclamation through the CRE:

"Scotland's public figures need to ensure [the World Cup] remains a force for integration, rather than a cause of division."

That's all very well, but in case Nanny hasn't realised it yet, the "bung fest" is in fact entirely based on stoking up nationalism and patriotism; that's why teams are divided into countries!

Whilst dick headed comments from so called "leaders" of the Scots, such as Jack McConnell (First Minister) who said that he would not be supporting England, can hardly be called bright; it is hardly a matter for the CRE, let Neanderthals such as McConnell dig their own political graves by allowing them to expose their childlike immaturity and bigotry to a wider audience.

The CRE, by making an issue out of it, will merely ensure that the "piss" is well and truly taken out of the English now. After all, why on earth should we give a toss about what a "bung fest" supporter shouts when he is drunk?

Ali Jarvis, a CRE director, said:

"Racism occurs when any person is stereotyped, harassed or discriminated against on the basis of their colour,

race,

ethnic or national identity.

Using the World Cup as a pretext for hostility against any nation or race,

including the English, is racism
."

Herein lies Nanny's problem, she doesn't understand football. It's purpose is not to unite people, but to divide them along tribal lines; in effect, it is war by another means. Were Nanny to really understand the nature of the game, she would ban it.

Notwithstanding the sheer brilliance of the logic of my argument, Nanny will of course ignore me. The CRE is already getting into a bit of a funk over two complaints that it received, one from an Englishman living in Scotland over the sale of "anyone but England" T-shirts.

The other was from a Scot who objected to a newspaper article in which a shopkeeper spoke of selling out of Trinidad strips from Scots, "out of pure hatred for the English team". Trinidad and Tobago play England on 15 June.

Ms Jarvis added:

"We've been monitoring exchanges in the media (Ken says-good grief has it come to this!)

and noticed an anti-English tone to some of the views expressed,

for example in the letters pages.

In one newspaper, someone wrote on Monday that they were not supporting England.

By the middle of the week,

someone else wrote in to say all English should leave

and they were a scourge on Scotland
."

Grow up, get a life, and let the children play at war. Sensible adults with well balanced lives should simply ignore this, so what if people wear these shirts?

I lived in Edinburgh for four years, as a student, and had a great time. There were occasions when I encountered anti English sentiment, but so what?

People can be jerks, it is as simple as that; no amount of interference from Nanny will change that.

Incidentally, my favourite anti English joke (note: I am English) from those days goes as follows (best enjoyed when read in a Scottish accent, preferably West coast):

When God created Britain, he took all the perverts, child molesters, deviants and other bastards sent them down South and called them the English!

Meanwhile one Englishwoman has claimed that she was unable to buy an England football top in an Inverness store, because staff told her that stocking such an item would have "offended the public".

David MacDougall, Tartan Army spokesman, summed it up rather well:

"I think in this day and age we might be a bit too sensitive.

People should take this in the spirit in which it's intended

just light-hearted banter and a bit of craic
."

Nanny, get a life!

DVLA Spends Your Money Wisely!

DVLA Spends Your Money Wisely!

It is good to know that Nanny tries hard to spread her "diversity" awareness attitudes to every part of her bloated bureaucracy.

Her minions in the Driver Vehicle Lincensing Authority (DVLA) have been labouring hard to prove to their mistress that they are as aware of diversity issues (ie the fact that everyone is different), as any other part of Nanny's bureaucracy.

As such the DVLA opened a £224K a year diversity unit in 2004.

Now that is rather old news, is it not?

However, the reason that I am writing about it now is that the cost of this daft waste of time and money has only just been unearthed via the Freedom of Information Act.

This Diversity Unit, what a splendid piece of nonsense, consists of nine people which replaced the equal opportunities unit in September 2004.

Aside from the annual cost of this unit, a further £50K is being spent on making the DVLA's 7,000 staff more aware of diversity issues; eg it is introducing systems to let Muslim women customers show their faces only to female staff.

This is all very well, but there are other issues that Nanny's trolls might like to address instead; eg complaints to the DVLA have gone up from 1,468 in 1997 to 4,777. Furthermore, the DVLA admits that it "loses" 734 documents annually.

The trouble is, resolving problems such as incompetency requires time, effort and skill. The fact is Nanny doesn't give a stuff, and prefers to waste her time and our money on pointless "easy" activities such as Diversity Units.

Nanny's trolls in the DVLA said:

"Diversity for DVLA means understanding and valuing

the full diversity of the community it serves
."

No, I have no idea what that means either!

What they should have said is that the DVLA will endeavour to improve its appalling performance.

One other point, if the DVLA believes that its staff are not sufficiently "diversity aware", what have Nanny's other agencies such as the Commission for Racial Equality been doing?
