Prats of The Week - Radstock Town Council

Goodness me it has been yonks since I have awarded my prestigious, and internationally renowned, Prats of The Week Award.

Therefore, without further ado, I hereby award it to Radstock Town council.

For why?

Well the "learned" town councillors have decreed that the flag of St George will no  longer be flown over Radstock, because it is "inappropriate".

The discussion and decision arose as a result of debate over the repairs to the civic flagpole to ensure a Union Jack could be flown on Armistice Day.

Why is the flag "inappropriate"?

It seems that the councillors are fretting over the Crusades (that took place 700 years ago), and worry that Muslims will be offended by the flag.

Labour councillor Eleanor Jackson claims that its use during the Crusades of the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries could mean the English national flag could be seen by some as offensive.

She is quoted by This Is Somerset:
"My big problem is that it is offensive to some Muslims but even more so that it has been hijacked by the far right. My thoughts are we ought to drop it for 20 years."
She suggested the Union flag was a more inclusive and suitable way of displaying national pride.

The council will also be flying the In Bloom flag at the Miners' Memorial Garden to celebrate the town's achievements in the gardening competition and the rainbow flag, the symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride movement, at "appropriate" times of the year.

There are also plans for a flag to be designed specially for Radstock.

What a load of bollocks!

By that token, the Union flag could be seen as being offensive to the French, Germans, Italians, Austrians and Japanese who we have all had bust ups with over the last two hundred years ever since the Union flag came into being!

I would also note that we were invaded by the Romans 2,000 years ago. Does this mean I should boycott my local Italian because the sight of the Italian flag reminds me of the "horrors" of Roman occupation (all those aqueducts, roads and bath houses - don't get me started!).

Quite rightly Nasima Begum, a spokeswoman for the Muslim Council of Britain, said it encouraged the flying of the St George's flag.
"St George needs to take his rightful place as a national symbol of inclusivity rather than a symbol of hatred. St George actually lived before the birth of Islam and should not be associated with any hatred of Muslims."
Well said!

Radstock Town council, well deserving Prats of The Week!

The Dangers of Flying BA

This being St George's Day, it is a sad to see that our "National Airline" chose to hand over three British citizens (The Channel 4 Three) to a Middle Eastern regime yesterday, rather than allow them to board the departing BA flight.

Happy St George's Day, but best avoid flying BA if you want to remain out of a foreign jail.

Union Jack
As I am sure all of you know, today is Europe Day!

No 10 Downing Street and the Foreign Office will not fly the European Union flag today. However, under the leadership of Vince Cable, the Department for Business will fly the European flag.

Nanny Bans St George

As we all know, the World Cup kicks off today.

Even David Cameron is attempting to be seen to be bothered, and is going to fly the cross of St George flag from Downing Street.

However, within the Nanny state there lurks a group of people who fear the cross of St George and being identified as being "Engerlish".

I cite the case of Bolton At Home (a company that manages 18,000 council homes in the Manchester area), which has banned its 1,200 workers from flying England flags on their own cars.

For why?

Nanny deems the flag to be racist!

Nanny also deems the flying of the flag as "discrimination" against those who don't support England during the World Cup.

What a bunch of pathetic twats!

These are the private cars of employees, not company owned vehicles; Nanny has no authority over what people append to their own vehicles.

The rule (no flags, stickers, posters etc) applies to Bolton At Home branded vehicles (fair enough), public offices (fair enough) and any personal vehicles used for work and for which an employee claims 'essential or casual car allowance'.

Twats!

Being English is not a matter of ethnic origin, or indeed geographic location, it is a state of mind.

The Dangers of Flags

Cross of St George
I see that St George's Day last week was not able to pass without some Nannyism.

Liverpool Council (much "respected" by the residents of Liverpool) decided to remove St George's flags erected (can I say "erected"?) across the main road of Walton.

Seemingly the council was worried that they might fly off and obscure the windscreens of passing cars. Nanny's chums on the council sent out a workman in a truck with a cherry-picker to take all the flags down, accompanied by policemen in an unmarked van.

Nice to see that during times of economic crisis the council is still happy to waste taxpayers' money on a piffling health and safety "issue".

I am pleased to say that Nanny and the council got a sound kicking from the citizens of Liverpool, hundreds of whom inundated local radio stations with phone calls to complain.

The council was forced to reattach many of the flags.

Happy St George's Day!

Cross of St George
Happy St George's Day everyone!

As we take today to celebrate being English, we can also take a little time to digest yesterday's budget.

A remarkable piece of engineering by Darling and Brown, based on the fantasy that growth will shoot back to 3.5% by 2011. They did what every amateur schoolboy physicist does, make the results fit the theory.

Regrettably for us, living in the real world, growth will not hit 3.5% in 2011 and Darling's "budget" will fall apart.

Aside from the fact that Treasury forecasts are always bollocks, even if they were for once accurate we find ourselves facing a debt of £1 Trillion.

Yes, read that figure again, £1 Trillion!

Given that we are now facing the worst economic situation in living memory, thanks to Brown's debt boom and unwillingness to put something away for a rainy day during the boom times, Nanny's expenditure will have to be cut.

Factoid: I warned about this in July 2003 "The Road To Nowhere - The Delusion of the Burgeoning Public Sector"

The question is will she cut areas that genuinely add no value; eg diversity awareness roles, non jobs in local councils, spin departments, government misinformation films on smoking/eating/boozing, the ego massaging Olympics etc?

This financial disaster, brought to us by ZaNuLabour, does offer an opportunity to roll back the frontiers of the state.

However, the short term effects will be very unpleasant, as all those people who have had their livelihoods paid for by Nanny start to experience the real world. We can expect some very unpleasant confrontations in the coming months, as the reality hits home.

Nanny Bans St George Parade

Nanny Bans St George Parade
Happy St George's Day everyone!

In keeping with the spirit of the day, you will not be surprised to learn that Nanny has banned a parade of schoolchildren through Bradford to mark St George's Day.

Nanny cites "health and safety" as the reason for banning the parade through an area that saw race riots seven years ago.

Police and the local council told organisers a few days ago that the parade could not go ahead as planned, for "health and safety reasons".

They offered them a shorter route that avoided two streets at the centre of the race riots in 2001, and an alternative date for the event on July 1.

Is Nanny saying that there are areas in Britain where people cannot walk safely, and are denied free right of passage?

Are there "no go" areas in Britain now?

How ridiculous to offer 1st July as a date for a St George's Day parade!

A parade of Schoolchildren can hardly be equated to a parade of Mosley's blackshirts, how can that be deemed to be inflammatory?

The organisers were forced to call the event, at which 10,000 people had been expected, off.

The Rev Tony Tooby, the chairman of governors of St Philips Primary School, said:

"We wanted the route to include where some of the riots had taken place to educate young people.

The police and council just kept telling us the reason for their objection was 'health and safety'. They proposed another route which was ridiculously short. The march would have been over before it began
."

Kris Hopkins, the council's leader, claim they had not banned the parade:

"Given the involvement of 1,500 children, including six and seven-year-olds, we suggested a slightly safer route.

We've got a responsibility to look after our children
."

Isn't the responsibility to look after the children that of the parents and the school, where does the council get off thinking it needs to interfere?

The council are lying through their teeth.

Churchill wrote:

"There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word, which means more to me than any other.

That word is Engalnd
."

Happy St George's Day

Happy St George's Day
Happy St George's Day folks!

In keeping with Nanny's strict rules, Nanny hates the English, St George's Day is not a holiday in England.

Sometimes she even tries to ban people celebrating it privately. This year a St George's Day parade in Ilkeston has been cancelled, after organisers claimed they were told to pay £20,000 for a police presence.

Richard Dawson, of Ilkeston St George's Day Association, said that he had been forced to cancel the event as the bill would have taken money from good causes.

Derbyshire Police counter claim that they had no problem with the daytime parade, but claimed that there were security problems involving a "Right-wing element" during the evening entertainment last year.

They also disputed the cost figure quoted by Mr Dawson:

"The total cost that would have been put to him

in terms of policing would be no more than £2,500,

which would pay for six officers for an eight-hour period
."

A spokesman for Erewash council said that Mr Dawson's 2006 event breached a temporary licence, and led to complaints from residents.

"The event last year went over the set time limit."

The above story indicates that there are some "differences of opinion" as to the facts on this one. I would be grateful if anyone can post some details on the above, so that we can see a clearer picture.

However, here are a few reasons to be proud to be English:

1 We gave the world the English language, the language of choice for international business discussions.

2 We gave the world parliamentary democracy.

3 We were the first country in the modern world to abolish slavery.

4 We gave the world America (no smart arsed comments please:)).

5 We gave the world cricket and football.

Please feel free to add to the list.

Happy St George's Day!

Nanny's Gestapo State

Nanny's Gestapo StateIn the "good old days", when the police knocked at your door it could be assumed that:

1 Someone had died or

2 Someone you knew had committed a serious crime

In Nanny's Britain things have changed somewhat, the knock at the door now signals a visit from her thought police; seeking to impose Nanny's vision of "correct" behaviour on the hapless citizens of Britain, whether they like it or not.

Alan Rawlinson discovered what it is like to receive a knock from the Gestapo the other day, when two of Nanny's finest called asking to speak to his 11 year old son George.

Needless to say, Mr Rawlinson being a responsible parent feared that George had been involved in something really unpleasant.

However, he was wrong.

George's crime?

He had called one of his school friends 'gay'.

Yes folks, that's all it takes these days to find Nanny's thought police at your door; needless to say, should you be involved in drug dealing, assault or theft you can rest easy.

Why?

Because Nanny's police are too busy investigating thought crimes.

Anyhoo, Nanny's police said that George was being investigated for a "very serious" homophobic crime. George had used the comment in an e-mail to a 10-year-old classmate.

Clearly drug dealing, assault and theft are no longer thought of as being "serious"!

Needless to say Mr Rawlinson is pretty pissed off. He lambasted Nanny's thought police, saying:

"It is completely ridiculous.

I thought the officers were joking at first,

but they told me they considered it a very serious offence.

The politically correct brigade are taking over.

This seemed like a huge waste of resources for

something so trivial as a playground spat
."

Nanny's Cheshire police launched the investigation last month, after a complaint from the parents of the 10-year-old younger boy who received George's e-mail.

One wonders what sad individuals these must be, to waste their time and the police's time on this load of bollocks.

These sad people said that their son had been called a 'gay boy', and were concerned that there was more to the comment than playground banter and that their child was being bullied.

My father taught me two very important lessons (amongst many things)

1 Never ever "tell on your friends or classmates". You will end up being despised and shunned (remember folks, mankind has survived these past 150,000 years by co-operating; not by stabbing each other in the back).

2 Stand up for yourself, and don't ask others to fight your battles for you. The world is a harsh place, if you don't learn to fight your own battles, when you are young, what chance do you have when you are an adult?

Nanny is not only eroding the human genetic trait of co-operation, but she is also turning the "adult" population of this country into spoilt immature weaklings, incapable of standing up for themselves. This of course means that they are forced to rely on Nanny, thus enhancing Nanny's position and power.

Now back to the story, two officers were sent to the boys' school, Farnworth Primary, in Widnes, Cheshire, to speak to the headteacher; he then sent them to the Rawlinsons' home in St Helens, Merseyside.

George explained that he used the "gay" term not in a homophobic sense, but in the modern vernacular of meaning "stupid" (Bart Simpson uses it regularly in this context)...how words change over the years!

Needless to say George was terrified when the police turned up...well done Nanny for damaging this kid...doesn't that count as child abuse????

I guess Nanny will offer "counselling" for the lad, in one of her "thought correction" facilities?

Mr Rawlinson is well pissed off, quite rightly so. He has lodged a formal complaint against the police.

Quote:

"I've constantly contacted police about break-ins

at my business and never get a suitable response
."

That's because they don't give a fark!

Inspector Nick Bailey, of Cheshire police, very "graciously" said that no further action would be taken against George. However, he said the force had been obliged to record the incident as a crime and that they had dealt with it in a 'proportionate' manner.

Bollocks!

Seriously, does anyone out there in cyberspace now really trust the police, or have any faith that when a real crime is reported that it will be addressed?

Nanny Bans George

Nanny Bans George
Poor old Saint George, I don't know what he has done to Nanny but she certainly doesn't like him.

Nanny's chums in the rapidly declining and decaying Church of England are considering banning him, on the grounds that his image is too warlike and may offend Muslims.

Some of Nanny's clergy have started a campaign to replace George with St Alban, a Christian martyr in Roman Britain.

How very inspiring!

Anyone ever heard of Alban?

The proposal has been put forward by the Rev Philip Chester, vicar of St Matthew's, Westminster, he is under the impression that the use of St George as patron saint is 'dotty'.

If St Alban replaced St George, the red cross on a white background would have to be replaced as England's flag by Alban's symbol, a diagonal yellow cross on a blue background.

Hang on a minute, isn't that Scotland's flag?

What a waste of time and energy. Hardly surprising that the Church of England is in terminal decline.

Nanny Saves The Dragon

Nanny Saves The DragonQuite how daft Nanny makes herself look at times never ceases to amaze me. Although St George's Day was back in April, this particular Nanny St George's Day story only surfaced recently.

Angie Sayer, landlady of the New Inn in Wedmore Somerset, got into a spot of bother with Nanny's Dragon protection squad.

Her crime?

On St George's Day she held an archery competition, in which she used the Welsh flag as the target.

The Welsh flag has a dragon at the centre, and the logic being that since St George killed the dragon a spot of dragon hunting on St George's Day would be a good idea.

Mrs Sayer was forgetting one thing, Nanny's ever watchful Dragon Protection Squad were in the area. Seemingly one of Angie's dafter patrons thought that it would be "amusing" to report the matter to the police, for a "laugh".

Anyhoo, Nanny's police force decided that this competition constituted an incitement to commit racial hater and paid Angie a visit.

She was interviewed for two hours by Nanny's thought police, who concluded that they would not be taking any further action.

No matter, the damage is done; the fear of the State paying "visit" to "discuss" thought crimes has now been well and truly planted in those connected with this story, and anyone who has read about it.

I wonder if this is the sort of "community action against yobbery" that John Reid had in mind?

Nanny Bans Mr Whippy

Nanny Bans Mr WhippyNanny has something of a horror of seeing children, or indeed adults, enjoy themselves. Frivolity, in her world, is a waste of time and energy and should be stamped out.

Needless to say, the sound of Greensleeves and the sight of a brightly coloured van selling ice cream is regarded by Nanny as being just toooo frivolous. Therefore she has decided that Mr Whippy, and his chums, should be banned from selling their highly dangerous and evil ice cream near schools.

Mr Whippy and his chums have been playing Greensleeves and selling ice cream to generations of British kids, and their parents, for the past 60 years. Now Nanny's chums in the health lobby have decided that ice-cream vans are a danger to children's health.

An amendment to the Education and Inspection Bill will be put forward this week. In the amendment, local authorities will be given new powers to stop ice-cream vans from operating near school gates.

This miserable bastard move comes on top of regulations being imposed by local authorities that ban ice-cream vans from using pay-and-display parking spaces, and rules that set up "ice-cream-free" exclusion zones around busy shopping streets.

Nanny's chums in Newham council informed Mr Whippy and his mates last month that it would fine van owners up to £80 if they used pay-and-display bays. Greenwich council has banned the vans from its streets altogether.

Miserable, sad, pathetic, jobsworth, bastards!

West Dunbartonshire council has introduced an exclusion zone around schools for vans.

As one dietitian said, all this daft ban will do is push the children into buying less healthy food and sweets at their local store.

Catherine Collins, the chief dietitian at St George's Hospital, Tooting said:

"This is the kind of blanket ban that gives the health lobby a bad name.

A healthy diet can factor in a sugary treat such as an ice-cream.

It is the frequency of that treat that is an issue.

Most choices from an ice-cream van would provide fewer calories and fat compared to a free choice from a newsagent
."

Nanny is having none of that. Chris Waterman, the executive director of the Confederation of Education and Children's Services Managers (eh?), said:

"There are millions going into healthy food in schools, yet kids are rushing to spend their money on food from mobile vans

(Editor's note: it's called the free market matey!)

The ice-cream van industry may be saying it is in meltdown but for the sake of our children's health and safety we should keep the icons at Bournemouth and Blackpool but stop them driving around schools."

Twat!

As ever Nanny fails to make the distinction between a once in a while treat, and a daily overindulgence. If you are stupid enough to eat tons of ice cream every day then you will make yourself ill, but then that's your choice surely?

For the record a large single ice cream cone contains about 139 calories. A chocolate Flake adds about 100 calories.

A Mars Bar contains nearly 300 calories.

Will Nanny be banning those as well?

The next step that Nanny will be taking is to regulate and monitor what children eat outside the school gates, ie she will be insisting on regulating what they (and their parents) eat at home.

Are you happy with letting her do that?

Prat Of The Week

Prat of The WeekThis week's Prat of The Week Award goes to one of Nanny's henchmen, Terry White, from the Labour Communications Unit.

White has decreed, in an email to Allan Murray a member of the public, that sports fans who wave the flag of Saint George are racist.

This follows on from a comment made by an ex-minister, Gisela Stuart (German born), who claimed that the rise of Englishness is a threat to democracy.

Mr Murray had written to Nanny saying:

"Why is it that as a party you dislike the English so much?

I am fed up to the back teeth with Labour's endless dumbing down of the English.

The Labour Party are trying to wipe England off the UK map
."

White responded in a rant worthy of Nanny herself:

"England, as opposed to Britain, has an unfortunate history around the world and within the British Isles and please do not say that it is all past.

It is a fact that the right and extreme right in Britain cloak themselves in the English flag, the cross of St George and claim to be the true representatives of the English.

Wherever there is hooligan behaviour, usually linked to extreme right-wing political groups eg, at football matches here and abroad, it is the flag of St George that is displayed
."

Utter....wait for it....bollocks!

Nanny is using the tired old argument that we should be guilty for our past, and to atone we must never mention our nationality again (except by way of shame).

Piffle and balderdash!

You can no more undo your past, than you can disinvent the wheel.

Nanny's Smooth Talking Bar StewardYet Nanny is more than happy to encourage "racial awareness", and a yearning for separate identities, by encouraging devolution in Scotland and Wales. I won't even begin to discuss the Smooth Talking Bar Steward's shambolic attempt at a Northern Regional Assembly!

When you start to unpick the fabric of a United Kingdom, that took many centuries of bloodshed and toil to unite, you will get a backlash.

Nanny has realised that she may have spoken out of turn here, and has done what comes naturally to her; she has disowned White. A Labour spokesman said:

"We cannot condone these comments and they in no way represent the views of the Party. We apologise unreservedly for any offence caused."

Too late, you have exposed your warped thinking to the world; now suffer the consequences.

St George Slays The Dragon

St George Slays The DragonThe majority of articles on Nanny Knows Best show the seemingly unstoppable encroachment of Nanny into our lives, at times it seems that there is nothing that can be done to stop her.

However, once in a while, a ray of hope (such an awful phrase don't you think?) illuminates the darkness.

E tenbris lux.

One such ray comes in the form of Phil Moffatt's victory over ever popular, and "respected", Liverpool council.

Mr Moffatt, owner of Churchill's Food Emporium in Tuebrook, has traditionally flown the flag of St George every St George's day (which is tomorrow folks). However, Nanny's chums in Liverpool council had tried to stop him doing it this year.

They claimed, and I doubt that this was the real reason, that the flags constituted a health and safety issue. They were going to fine him £1K, if he went ahead with his plan to fly 20 flags this year.

Mr Moffatt stood firm, and won.

Nanny has backed down, and Mr Moffatt will be able to fly 20 flags.

This shows that Nanny can, like the dragon, be slain.

My compliments to you Mr Moffatt.

Nanny Bans Saint George

Nanny Bans St GeorgeThose of you who bedeck your houses with the Cross of St George on St George's Day, April 23rd, may well be advised to avoid the People's Republic of Hounslow this year.

Seemingly Nanny's friends in the council there have decided that St George, Patron Saint of England, is socially divisive.

They are so worried about causing a "divisive rift" in their electorate, that they will not be flying the Cross of St George over the civic centre.

Now, at first sight, this may just about be palatable; if all others were treated equally, we all know how Nanny believes in treating people equally!

Unfortunately, and not surprisingly, this is not the case. You see, Ladies and Gentlemen, in Nanny's Britain some are more equal than others.

In particular the following organisations/groups are considered by Hounslow to be more equal than the English:

-The Palestinians
-The International Co-operators (can someone tell me who the hell these people are?)
-The Welsh

All of the above had their flags flown, above the civic centre, on their "special days".

One brave soul, Labour no less, tried to get the council to fly the flag. Cllr Peta Vaught, (Lab, Heston Central) put a motion to the ruling Labour Group's last meeting; to raise the flag over the civic centre on St George's Day, along with articles in the council's HM magazine and events for local schools.

However, her fellow councillors defeated the motion - with only one other Cllr Gopal Dhillon, also Heston Central voting for it.

Cllr John Connelly, a former Labour group leader turned Independent, put the matter rather succinctly:

"It is a decision of donkeys. Given that the council celebrates Diwali with fireworks and other ethnic minority festivals, I suspect many residents will be highly offended by what appears to be a snub to the indigenous community...Even a Scot like myself, who regarded Beckham as the hero of the European Championships in Portugal following his penalty miss, could not fail to notice that the community at large embraced the flag in the support of England."

He added:

"Indeed in Hounslow I suspect I saw as many residents of Asian origin displaying the flag on their cars as I saw in cars driven by white drivers...I imagine Tony Blair and his associates will be deeply embarrassed by this decision...".

I have said this before, and I will keep saying it until people wake up and take notice, we are becoming foreigners in our own country.
