Fear of Causing Offence Offends Us All

I see that Fireman Sam has managed to get himself entangled in an alleged religious furore.

The BBC reports that an episode of Fireman Sam, in which one character appears to tread on a page from the Koran, has been withdrawn.

A scene in the children's programme shows a fireman slipping on a pile of papers - and as they fly into the air a page from the Koran is "briefly depicted", production firm Mattel said.

The episode was first broadcast in October 2014 on Channel 5 but the "error" has only recently been spotted.

Mattel apologised and said it did not believe it was done "maliciously".

Channel 5, which broadcasts Fireman Sam, has removed the episode from its streaming website.

Miqdaad Versi, assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, tweeted: "I have no idea what went through the producer's minds when they thought this was a good idea #baffled".

He also said he had identified the page from the Koran as "Surah Mulk (67), verses 13-26".

In a statement, Mattel said:
"The page was intended to show illegible text and we deeply regret this error.

We sincerely apologise for any distress or offence it may have caused."

It said it would "no longer be working with the animation studio responsible", and would take "immediate action to remove this episode from circulation".

"We are reviewing our content production procedures to ensure this never happens again.".
Looking at the offending clip, I am at a loss to understand how (unless someone looks frame by frame) a normal viewer could even see this?

How therefore was this first spotted?

In the current scheme of things, given the daily news headlines, why is this making headlines?

Multiculturalism Has Failed

Trevor Phillips, the former chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission has warned of the dangers of a nation within a nation.

As per the Telegraph, commenting on a ground-breaking survey, Trevor Phillips said we are “in danger of sacrificing a generation of young British people to values that are antithetical to the beliefs of most of us, including many Muslims”.

He called for a new, tougher approach to integration and the abandonment of “the failed policy of multiculturalism".

Prats of The Week - KFC

Kudos to a branch of KFC in Leicester that displayed utter fuckwittery over the issuance, or rather non issuance, of the obligatory KFC finger and face wipes.

The branch is trialing offering halal chicken alongside non halal chicken and, for reasons that escape all and sundry, decided that because the face wipes contain alcohol they should not be given out lest they offend Muslims.

Now here's the thing, Muslims are allowed to use alcohol for cleanliness and for medicine etc. The only issue being if they were to drink it.

Unless I am very much mistake people tend not to drink face wipes!

Suffice to say this sort of nonsense, aside from making KFC look like knobheads, stokes up tensions between Muslim and non Muslims by creating an issue where there isn't one.

A spokesman for KFC is quoted by the Telegraph:
Our alcohol-based hand wipes are approved for use in all our restaurants, including those who are part of the halal trial.

There was a misunderstanding at the store in question, but the wipes are now being used again.

We’re sorry for the customer’s experience.”
Sigh!

Prats of The Week - Radstock Town Council

Goodness me it has been yonks since I have awarded my prestigious, and internationally renowned, Prats of The Week Award.

Therefore, without further ado, I hereby award it to Radstock Town council.

For why?

Well the "learned" town councillors have decreed that the flag of St George will no  longer be flown over Radstock, because it is "inappropriate".

The discussion and decision arose as a result of debate over the repairs to the civic flagpole to ensure a Union Jack could be flown on Armistice Day.

Why is the flag "inappropriate"?

It seems that the councillors are fretting over the Crusades (that took place 700 years ago), and worry that Muslims will be offended by the flag.

Labour councillor Eleanor Jackson claims that its use during the Crusades of the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries could mean the English national flag could be seen by some as offensive.

She is quoted by This Is Somerset:
"My big problem is that it is offensive to some Muslims but even more so that it has been hijacked by the far right. My thoughts are we ought to drop it for 20 years."
She suggested the Union flag was a more inclusive and suitable way of displaying national pride.

The council will also be flying the In Bloom flag at the Miners' Memorial Garden to celebrate the town's achievements in the gardening competition and the rainbow flag, the symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride movement, at "appropriate" times of the year.

There are also plans for a flag to be designed specially for Radstock.

What a load of bollocks!

By that token, the Union flag could be seen as being offensive to the French, Germans, Italians, Austrians and Japanese who we have all had bust ups with over the last two hundred years ever since the Union flag came into being!

I would also note that we were invaded by the Romans 2,000 years ago. Does this mean I should boycott my local Italian because the sight of the Italian flag reminds me of the "horrors" of Roman occupation (all those aqueducts, roads and bath houses - don't get me started!).

Quite rightly Nasima Begum, a spokeswoman for the Muslim Council of Britain, said it encouraged the flying of the St George's flag.
"St George needs to take his rightful place as a national symbol of inclusivity rather than a symbol of hatred. St George actually lived before the birth of Islam and should not be associated with any hatred of Muslims."
Well said!

Radstock Town council, well deserving Prats of The Week!

LMU Students Fight Back Against Fuckwittery

On 13th April I wrote the following:
"Congratulations to London Metropolitan University (one of this country's "older" bastions of learning, founded in 2002) for demonstrating some supreme fuckwittery.

Professor Malcolm Gillies, its vice chancellor, has told a conference that the university is considering banning the sale of alcohol from some parts of the campus.

For why?

Seemingly, according to the Prof, a "high percentage" of students consider drinking "immoral".

Really?

Has he actually asked them?

Students find drinking immoral?

Is it compulsory for students to drink?

No, I thought not!

On planet does the Prof live?

Ah, wait a minute, I see.

It seems that 20% of the students are Muslim, and the Prof is using the excuse of "cultural sensitivity" to promote his own personal belief (as stated in his speech) that he "
was not a great fan of alcohol on campus".

It seems a pretty lousy tactic to use other people's religious beliefs as an excuse to promote your own prejudices, given that the students attend the university of their own free will and are not forced to drink.
"
My compliments to the Muslim students of LMU who are fighting back against this nonsense.

They quite rightly have pointed out that using other people's alleged religious beliefs, as an excuse to ban something, will only stoke up trouble. The students said that the prospective alcohol ban was “ill-advised and misleading”, demonising them and exacerbating “Islamophobia” at the university and in wider society.

As expected, the proposals have created an atmosphere of ill-feeling amongst students.

In an open letter, students have demanded a retraction and an apology for his comments:
There has never been a demand for an alcohol ban on campus from Muslim or non-Muslim students.

The Muslim population at London Met stands at approximately 20 per cent, so assuming all Muslims at the campus were in favour of the ban, this could not be imposed as it would go against the fundamental principal of democracy.”
They go on to say:

We find your argument to ban alcohol on religious grounds baseless, divisive and irresponsible and we are concerned about the welfare of the students.

Such an unreasonable proposal which clearly many non-Muslims view as an attack by Muslims against their way of life, is absolutely of no benefit to the Muslim students and the wider Muslim community at all.

In fact it demonises them even more and it will be used as baseless evidence to show how Britain is becoming a ‘shariastate', particularly by far right groups such as the EDL who have already capitalised upon this and added it to their campaign against minority groups."
It is suspected that cultural issues were being used as an excuse to justify a potentially unpopular decision not to renew the bar’s lease.
Unsurprisingly, LMU now appears to be backing down:
"London Met has no plans to implement a ‘blanket ban’ on alcohol across its campuses, rather it is about the very practical realities of a student life that may involve going to class in the morning and needing a place to work later in the day."
The observant will note that the above statement (after the bit about no "blanket ban"), is meaningless nonsense wrt the issue at hand; clearly LMU is very rattled by the furore, and wants to extricate itself from its self imposed mess.

Nanny plays a dangerous game when she tries to use others' alleged beliefs as an excuse for imposing her own prejudices!

Congratulations to London Metropolitan University (one of this country's "older" bastions of learning, founded in 2002) for demonstrating some supreme fuckwittery.

He is quoted by the Telegraph:
"Because there's no majority ethnic group, I think it [selling alcohol] is playing to particular parts of our society much more [than to others]".
For good measure the Prof is worried about sex on campus too.

Good luck with banning that then!

Nanny Bans Fireman Sam

It seems that Nanny continues to crack down on freedom of speech and our freedom to ask questions.

David Jones, a retired fireman and the creator of Fireman Sam, discovered this to his cost the other day when he went through the security gates at Gatwick airport.

As we all know, Nanny has done her best to increase our paranoia and fear about terrorism and has increased the level of security checks over the years at UK airports (all rather pointless on some long haul flights, if the same level of checks are not carried out at other airports en route or for transit passengers).

Anyhoo, Mr Jones placed his belongings, including a scarf, into the tray that passes through the X ray (that can't of course pick up certain types of explosives). Whilst waiting in line he observed a Muslim lady in a hijab pass through the area without showing her face.

Mr Jones made a comment to one of Nanny's security officers thusly:

"If I was wearing this scarf over my face, I wonder what would happen.”

Can you guess what happened next children?

Yes, that's right, Mr Jones was detained by Nanny's security staff and accused of racism.

Factoid: for the benefit of Nanny and her lackeys, any person of any race or colour can be Muslim (it is a religion not a race!).

Mr Jones then was subjected to a one hour stand-off, as Nanny's lackeys tried to force him to apologise.

To whom should he have apologised may I ask, and for why?

1 He wasn't being racist.

2 The comment was not aimed at the lady, nor heard by her.

3 The lady had long since gone.

Mr Jones then claims that, in addition to security staff giving him a verbal going over, the BA duty manager (he was trying to fly BA) got involved and took their side too.

The security staff insisted that he apologise to a Muslim security guard who had "apparently", on being told of the comment (ie she was not initially involved), became offended.

Mr Jones requested that a police officer be sought, unfortunately the police officer also kowtowed to the concept of political correctness. Mr Jones was told that "some things are not to be said".

We have now entered the Orwellian world of thought and speech crimes!

Mr Jones eventually (as he really did want to catch a flight) came to an agreement whereby he consented that what he said "could" be considered offensive by a Muslim guard.

Needless to say, Nanny insisted on making him go through the security check and full search again.

How petty and pathetic!

Gatwick airport are now looking into the matter!

Nanny Bans Swimming - In Case of Water Ingestion II

I have just received this response from Stoke On Trent, re an email I only sent them an hour ago about their "swimming ban".

The speed of their response indicates they are running scared.

I suggest that the rest of you give them a push.

I also note that even if this is "only" guidance, it still fans the flames of division. They have not answered my question either.

"Dear Sir/Madam,

Re: Your Question of 13/07/2010: "Have you lost your minds re banning swimming lessons during Ramadan? "The council, by this ill informed and odious document, have done more to damage inter faith/ethnic relations in this country than any number of marches by the BNP or extreme Muslim groups. How the hell do they think this helps Muslims integrate into society by singling them out for special treatment in this way?" http://nannyknowsbest.blogspot.com/2010/07/nanny-bans-swimming-in-case-of-water.html"

Thank you for your enquiry. The answer to your question is as follows:

Thank you for your mail. The report you refer to is for guidance only to schools which has been put together with the help of the Muslim council of Great Britain. It was discussed at a recent meeting of the city councils Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education and is aimed at making teachers aware of a range of issues which could affect children during Ramadan. With thanks

Nanny Bans Swimming - In Case of Water Ingestion

DrowningDear oh dear, I have read some half baked ideas presented by Nanny and her minions over the last few years but this one really takes the biscuit.

In fact, even though it is reported by the venereal (or is it venerable?) organ the BBC (Auntie), I am wondering if it is really true.

Anyhoo, according to Auntie, Nanny's chums from Stoke on Trent City Council have issued some guidance (11 pages no less) to schools over how to deal with Ramadan this year (expected to be around August/September).

One "major" issue appears to be what to do with swimming lessons for Muslim children during this period.

Nanny's dickheads in the council are of the view that because Muslims are meant to fast from dawn to dusk during Ramadan (note fasting also means no liquids), swimming lessons pose the risk of children ingesting water and thus breaking the fast.

OK...ermm...what happens if a Muslim is drowning during Ramadan?

Should they continue to drown, or do their best to save themselves even if it means swallowing some water?

It is sad and worrying to see how idiotic certain councils are when it comes to interpreting Islam from their narrow pc perspective.

Now at this point I would conjecture that were a Muslim family so concerned about their child swallowing water during Ramadan, then they would simply write a "please excuse" note during this period, and the school would use some commonsense and say "OK".

This of course is Nanny's Britain, Stoke on Trent City Council do not understand the concept of commonsense and have decreed that swimming lessons should be banned during the period of Ramadan.

The council guide states:

"Schools with a significant number of Muslim pupils should try to avoid scheduling swimming lessons during Ramadan to remove unnecessary barriers to full participation."

Yes, that's right, because of their (non Muslim) extreme interpretation of Islam they (the council) will inflict their narrow beliefs on everyone. Thus ensuring that everyone loses out.

The council also wants sex education classes stopped during the holy lunar month, as Muslim followers who have reached puberty are required to avoid sexual thoughts during this period.

The council, by this ill informed and odious document, have done more to damage inter faith/ethnic relations in this country than any number of marches by the BNP or extreme Muslim groups.

How the hell do they think this helps Muslims integrate into society by singling them out for special treatment in this way?

The Scanners Are Coming

Body Scanner

I amused to see that our "beloved" PM Gordon "Smiler" Brown has authorised the installation of body scanners, at all of the UK's airports, in response to the threat posed by morons who try to detonate their underpants.

Here are a few observations about Brown's "great" plan:

1 Scanners have been considered in the past, and deemed not up to the job.

2 Scanners require a human to spot the "bomb", they are therefore not infallible.

3 Scanners will not pick up certain dangerous substances.

4 Brown has ordered a review of security, with special emphasis on scanners. Yet he has overridden the review, even before it has concluded/reported, and ordered scanners.

Why?

It's an election year, and he has to look "decisive".

5 Body scanners will most likely break Nanny's anti child porn laws.

6 Why waste resources treating all passengers as suspects, when experts in the field of terrorism have stated (time and time again) that the terrorists fit a reasonably "easy to identify" profile?

Nanny is just trying to look busy, to make us think that she is useful to us.

However, do not be too alarmed, as said this is a "directive from Brown himself:

1 Orders from Brown never actually come to fruition.

2 These days orders from the Number 10 bunker carry as much weight as Fuhrer orders did in April 1945.

3 Brown/Labour will cock this up, as they have done every other thing in the past 13 years.

The Electric Commode II

Dear Loyal Readers,

Regarding the remarkable speed with which details about the man with exploding underpants have appeared in the media, and the fact that he was on a "watch list" yet still granted a visa, there can only be one conclusion to be drawn about how he was able to almost detonate his underpants.

Someone somewhere, wanted him to get through the security net.

Why?

I would not dream of speculating here.

However, I would note that there are elements on the extreme right of US politics who will make as much use as they can out of this "security failure" in order to damage President Obama.

I am of course a simple Brit, who does not have any real understanding about how politics works in the USA.

Happy New Year!

Ken

The Electric Commode

The Electric Commode

Way back in 2004 I designed a special new security chair, The Electric Commode, to be used by airlines when transporting their customers from "A" to "B".

The device ensures that the customer is well and truly strapped in during the flight, with no chance of moving around and causing a potential terrorist incident.

Following the actions of that complete and utter knobhead from Nigeria, who attempted to detonate his own underpants, the new security measures being introduced by US bound airlines include toilet restrictions.

Sadly, it seems, my design (especially the commode part) will come to fruition and be onboard some airlines in the not too distant future.

Short of injecting every passenger with a coma inducing sedative, for the duration of the flight, there is little else that airlines can do to prevent passengers from moving around other than strap them in.

BTW, even this and full body searches won't stop the determined knobhead intent on killing him/herself. There is an obvious method, which I will not discuss (lest I give some moron an idea), for concealing explosives etc.

My views on terrorism and religion are noted on my Blue Blog.

It is sad that "religion" is used as an excuse to kill more people than any other of man's "beliefs/traditions/addictions/habits".

Postcards of the above design can be purchased here Electric Commode Postcards.

Those Whom The Gods Wish To Destroy

Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.

Regrettably, as a nation, it appears that Nanny has finally driven us insane.

It seems that an officer from the West Midlands counter terrorism unit has sent an email to community groups covering the fears that Nanny has wrt the brainwashing of children (as young as 4) by extreme Muslims:

"I do hope that you will tell me about persons, of whatever age, you think may have been radicalised or be vulnerable to radicalisation ... Evidence suggests that radicalisation can take place from the age of 4."

How the fark does one know if a 4 year old has been "radicalised"?

The unit has also sent counter-terrorist officers, specially trained in identifying children and young people vulnerable to radicalisation, to nursery schools.

I'm sorry, did I really just write that?

What the fark is going on in this country?

Have we truly gone collectively insane?

This policy will further alienate Muslims from the mainstream community, and will most certainly bring about fear and loathing in local communities with a large Muslim population.

The hapless officer who sent the mail, dug himself further into a hole by adding:

"I am a police officer and therefore it will always be part of my role to gather intelligence and I will report back any information or intelligence which may suggest someone is a terrorist, or is planning to be one or to support others.

However, my role is to raise the level of awareness of the threat of terrorism and radicalisation and support and work with partners to try to prevent it
."

I wasn't aware it was the role of the police to act as spies?

I thought that spies were meant to act as spies?

What the hell has been going on at police training schools?

It seems to me that the "radicalisation police" ought to be looking into the training camps of our own police, to found out what BS is being pumped into their brains.

We have truly gone mad!

Prats of The Week - The Home Orifice

Prats of The WeekTis a Monday morning, and with a song in my heart I am happy to award my prestigious, and internationally renowned, "Prats of The Week" Award to Nanny's Home Orifice.

What have they done to deserve this?

Easy peasy, they have issued a booklet (at our expense) telling their own staff not to eat food in front of Muslim colleagues during Ramadan; lest it makes them feel hungry.

Aside from the sheer bollocks waste of time and money that this absurd piece of "homespun" advice has inflicted, it is also highly offensive and patronising to Muslims as it singles them out as being "different".

Didn't Hitler do the same thing with Jewish people?

It is also somewhat ironic that the Home Orifice is so concerned about the possible "hurtfulness" of eating in front of Muslims who are fasting.

Is this not the same Home Orifice that, as part of the Nanny state, gave approval to the US to use the UK for rendition flights (whereby Muslim terror suspects were snatched from various foreign locations, and taken to G'tmo to be waterboarded without due legal process)?

What's worse?

Waterboarding, or eating in front of someone who is fasting?

Maybe eating in front of a fasting Muslim will be added to the CIA torture manual?

Prats of The Week - Croydon Council Again!

Prats of The WeekI see that Croydon Council (where I used to live) have distinguished themselves again, and have again won my coveted and internationally renowned "Prats of The Week" Award.

Well done lads!

For why have they won it this time?, I hear you ejaculate (Can I say ejaculate?).

Croydon council runs separate one-and-a half-hour swimming sessions for Muslim men and women every Saturday and Sunday at the Thornton Heath Leisure Centre (I touched on this issue in 2006 when Croydon denied - lied - such swimming sessions took place).

Swimmers have been told, via the centre's website, that "during special Muslim sessions male costumes must cover the body from the navel to the knee and females must be covered from the neck to the ankles and wrists".

Quite how the council thinks that this helps Muslims integrate into a non Muslim society, and bond with non Muslims I don't know.

Now here's where the council dig themselves further into a hole (you will recall they did the same thing in 2006, when they denied - lied - that there were Muslim only swimming sessions). A press officer at Croydon council claimed that the wording on the website was a mistake, and the dress code should be regarded as a suggestion rather than a requirement.

ROFLOL!

How stupid do these twats in the council think we are?

Needless to say, in a desperate attempt to airbrush history, the council changed the website to remove the reference to the dress code.

Great!

Except for one small problem.

Can you guess what that is children?

Yes, that's right, it is still policy to require a dress code. An official at the leisure centre said that the dress code remained compulsory.

My understanding of basic Tory philosophy is that:

- It does not endorse segregation or divisive policies

- It believes in one nation politics that serves the interests of a cohesive unified nation

- It believes in "small" government

- It believes in honesty

Nanny Bans Boys

Nanny Bans Boys
My sympathies to the parents in the Shirley area of Croydon, who send their kids to the Shirley Gymnastics Club.

The club has been banned because it has boys in it.

For why?

Rude behaviour?

No!

Ungentlemanly conduct?

No!

They have been banned because of their sex.

It seems that some Muslim parents complained that the boys should not be mixing with the girls at Old Palace School (an independent girls school, it is not a Muslim school), where the mixed classes for the club were held.

So that you are perfectly clear, it's not the parents of the members of the club who are complaining it's some of the parents of the girls at the school. Seemingly, the complainers are working under the delusion that in the 21st century their girls will never meet a boy outwith their supervision.

The club has 250 members, of which 36 are boys, and has been running classes at the school since January 2008. However, since the complaint, the club now has to look for another site to hold its classes.

Knobhead of The Year - Keith Vaz

KnobheadCongratultations to Keith Vaz MP who, despite it being only February, has placed himself in pole position for my ultra prestigious "Knobhead of The Year" Award.

There he was on Newsnight last night pontificating on how morally riught it was for Jacqui Smith (Home Economics Minister...sorry, slip of the tongue, Home Secretary) to ban Dutch MP Geert Wilders from entering the UK to attend a screening of his film (Fitna) that contains extracts of the Koran, on the grounds that he is anti Islamic.

Vaz gave a perfunctory performance, until it was noted that he hadn't actually seen the film that he said was anti Islamic. Moreover he went on to say that he didn't need to see the film in order to know that it was right to ban Wilders.

A British Muslim guest on the show complained to Vaz that he would have liked to have debated publicly with Wilders, to expose the foolishness of his views.

Vaz said he could do so by going to Holland!

As the Muslim guest noted, that response from Vaz said a lot about the so called freedom of speech in this country if he had to go abroad in order to be able to discuss a subject.

The added irony being that the film was screened anyway, and Mr Wilders (whom, until now, most will have never heard of) has now gained an awful lot of publicity.

I guess that Mr Vaz was a tad too busy to view the film, as he had been involved in a "lively" phone call with Boris Johnson the day before; a transcript of which had been inexplicably leaked by someone (not Boris or his team, that's for sure) to the media.

Keith Vaz, well deserving Knobhead of The Year!

Prats of The Week - Christmas Postponed For Eid

Prats of The WeekCongratulations to those running Greenwood Junior School in Nottingham, for winning this week's Prats of The Week Award.

The powers that be at the school decided that running a school nativity play, and celebrating Eid (which lasts only two days) was simply too much bother. Their solution was to send out letters saying that the Nativity play was cancelled.

Unsurprisingly a number of parents were a tad pissed off.

Surprisingly the school hadn't anticipated the reaction, and hastily tried to back peddle claiming there had been a misunderstanding and sent out another letter. The second letter said that the play would be postponed to the New Year.

Errmm...what use is a Nativity play in New Year?

Given that Eid lasts but two days the school, had they used a little bit of imagination, could have still put on the play.

Did they not think of the negative PR that this decision and letters would generate?

Did anyone really think of the consequences of their actions?

It seems not.

A Nation of Pussies

A Nation of Pussies
I guess I am just too old, reactionary, atheistic and out of touch to understand quite why this guy has the cheek to take Tesco to a tribunal (and why a tribunal has been called) on the dubious basis of racial discrimination for making him carry crates of booze.

Aside from the most obvious points that:

1 Supermarkets sell booze

2 As a guest in this country it his his duty to respect our customs and laws, not the other way around

There is one question that he really should be asking himself. Given that it is against his interpretation of his religion that it is unacceptable to handle booze in any shape or form, I assume that it is also his interpretation of his religion that he cannot handle drugs in any shape or form?

That being the case, how can he bring himself to handle our currency?

The average British note contains a fair smidgen of cocaine, enough to party with various MPs and Angus Deayton; by handling British notes he is handling drugs.

Just a thought!

As I said I am just too old, reactionary and out of touch to even understand the logic of this absurd case.

Rebel

Rebel
Tayside police force has been forced to apologise after complaints that an advert featuring a German shepherd puppy could be offensive to members of the local Muslim community.

Tayside Police used a picture of 29-week-old black puppy "Rebel" on postcards promoting the force's new non-emergency telephone number.

However, Mohammed Asif, a member of the Tayside Joint Police Board and a Dundee councillor raised an objection saying that it would "not be welcomed" by some communities.

Mr Asif said some shopkeepers would not display the postcard as a result.

The police said:

"We did not seek advice from the force's diversity adviser prior to publishing and distributing the postcards.

That was an oversight and we apologise for any offence caused
."

Isn't this rather an over reaction?
