A Nation of Paedophiles

Nanny's Child Protection DeptNanny's "Won't someone think of the children?" agenda continues apace.

All adults in the UK are now presumed to be paedophiles, unless they can prove otherwise.

The fact that an offence may not yet have been committed, or indeed may not have been reported, does not preclude the adult from committing such an act in the future. However, in Nanny's world of "box ticking" that doesn't matter so long as you have your piece of paper proving you are "innocent" up until now.

Dick Puddlecote had an "amusing" encounter with the "Paedo Police" from his local school the other day:

"Last week, the boy Puddlecote's school e-mailed their regular newsletter. At the end of the sterile but cheery message was a plea for parent participation.

'The children are always pleased when parents hear them sing at our assembly shows, so please come along if you can. Remember to bring your CRB checks with you'.

Now, I'm CRB checked but was working. However, there are plenty others who would be able to attend but have never required clearance from the CRB in work or voluntary activities. And seeing as the process, in my experience, can take up to three months, anyone without clearance who wished to attend was effectively barred on the remote premise that they might be a paedophile.

Sorry if that appears simplistic, but how else can one view it? Guilty until proven innocent by the state machine.
"

Bottom line, Nanny has eliminated one of the basic tenets of English law "innocent until proven guilty".

The only way for this nonsense to be stopped is for every parent to effectively go on strike, and to refuse to attend or help out any school activity whatsoever; until Nanny's absurd "tick box" requirements for "proof of innocence" are removed.

Balls! II

Just a brief word about the £60M cost of Balls' grandparent website.

The majority of the cost would not have been for development, but for marketing.

Nanny uses our money to promote herself!

Given that a trifling 1500 people have registered, that £60M is clearly money well spent!

Balls!

Balls!Congratulations to Children's Secretary (why do children need a secretary?) Ed Balls for plumbing new depths of Nannyism.

He has launched and lauded a new website (that cost us £60M).

The site www.begrand.net tells grandparents how to be errmmm..grandparents!

Quote, grandparents often have "strong and sometimes strange opinions".

I assume by that Nanny means that grandparents have common sense, use their initiative and don't listen to Nanny.

The site contains some classic ZaNuLabour bullshit, eg bribe teenagers with a plate of chips if they don't want to eat their greens!

ROFLOL!!

The site tells grandparents what a burn is, and advises grandparents to ring an ambulance if their grandchild collapses.

For fark's sake!

Other gems:

"Pretty much any noise your new grandchild makes can be claimed as the word for you, even if not in your own language. Try 'Zulu,' or Thakur-da’, which it's Bengali for Grandad."

"Abundance is a new-ish term for 'making the most of what you've got.' [It's easy] to forget that winter is a time for the soil to cool, the weeds to die and bulbs to grow in the dark. That spring is planting time; summer and autumn are all about harvest and preserve-making."

"Help your grandchild to walk. No instructions required. Just hold out a hand and be prepared to take a thousand small steps to anywhere – very slowly and for a very long time. You practise patience and they just practise.

This method works when imparting many other skills, from using a spoon to bowling a spin ball. Just be present and accepting while the practising is going on.
Kit required: comfortable shoes
."

This has to be the largest piece of patronising BS I have read in a long time.

I really would have thought that the average grandparent would have some skills wrt helping grandchildren walking, calling ambulances and treating burns.

That being said maybe this is actually aimed at the new generation of ZaNuLabour grandparents who are in fact still under 30, because they had their children when they were 12.

Educashun

EducashunFull marks to Nanny's educashun system for producing literacy levels such as those exhibited by the hapless sign writer, who painted the "guided busway" sign on the St Ives to Cambridge road the other day.

A workman, working for the contractor, painting white Guided Bus Only signs in the road has written the "N" back to front.

A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesman said the contractor was "already aware of this mistake and will be putting it right".

New Balls Please

BallsUncle Eddie Balls, the friend of children everywhere, has had a change of heart over his plans to have all adults who come into contact with kids CRB checked (for a fee).

He has watered down the requirement for a CRB check, in the face of public outrage.

Hoozah!

The requirement will not apply to 11 million people.

Hoozah!

Instead it will apply to 9 million people.

A Right Balls Up

Balls Up
I see that headteachers have stirred from their slumbers and finally realised that Nanny's rules wrt adult/child interactions (eg CRB checks etc) are seriously stupid, and are damaging the relationship between adults and children.

Teachers' leaders (from both the state and private sector!) representing almost 45,000 schools have written to Balls, the children's secretary (why do children need a secretary?), saying that the new rules will stop language exchange programmes, deter parent-helpers and are absurdly bureaucratic and time wasting.

Balls, being a politician (ie weak, feeble and lacking principles), has said that the review (set up by Nanny out of fear of the public reaction to these rules) will doubtless cover these issues raised.

In other words, he will hide behind whatever conclusion that he has told the review to come up with.

The sad fact is that the people in parliament don't give a fark about what we think, so long as their bell towers are repaired at our expense they are happy.

BTW, slightly off topic, I refer you to yesterday's article on Loans and Finance (re Darling's neat window dressing trying to hide a 1% increase in NI - the con trick of a tax foisted on the British people 60 years ago).

The Dangers of Scouting

Baden Powell
I see that Nanny is trying to fiddle with boy scouts again.

This time her fiddling concerns the annual jamboree of around 10,000 scouts from around the world, a highlight of the scout calendar.

The event, despite being held for the last 90 years, is likely to suffer from Nanny's new laws regarding the interaction of adults with children.

Nanny now requires that adults who seek to interact with children register their details for background checks etc.

All very well, maybe, except for a small problem wrt the annual jamboree; there are 2,000 volunteers who help out at this event.

At £64 per head this amounts to a nice £128K potential money earner for Nanny. Doubtless she is licking her thin, sallow, lifeless, blood drained lips at the prospect!

However, the Scout Association is less than happy with this and is considering not bothering with the event. They are trying to see if Nanny will be reasonable and are writing to Ed Balls, the Children's Secretary, asking him to consider more flexibility for volunteer groups.

Pardon me whilst I choke on my early morning gin!

Nanny, being flexible!

No chance, lack of flexibility is her raison d'etre.

A Nation of Paedophiles - Nanny Sh*ts Herself II

What The Fuck!
Pass the sick bag someone, I had the great misfortune to watch Ed Balls (Children's Secretary - whatever that really means?) and Sir Roger Singleton, chairman of the Independent Safeguarding Authority, on TV last night trying to squirm their way out of the avalanche of criticism being heaped upon Nanny's head over her "Won't Someone Think of The Children?" database.

Balls now states that it is "tremendously important" to ensure the "right balance" has been struck and was relevant to "real life".

Sick bag again please!

When did this lousy government, and its brain dead apparatchiks, ever bother applying "real life" to their rules and diktats?

Balls droned on about what constitutes the difference between infrequent and frequent contact with children, as per Nanny's rule that frequent contact requires registration on her database.

Seemingly, in the eyes of Balls, 3 times a month would require registration.

That would of course mean, for instance, that shopkeepers who serve kids would have to register...wouldn't it?

This scheme is unworkable.

Aside from all the other points raised earlier on this site as to why it is wrong, can you seriously imagine that this government is capable of designing and building a database that can hold the details of 11 million people without there being some major cock up?

What government IT scheme has ever come in on time, on budget or on specification?

Take a look at HMRC or the NHS for "fine" examples of Nanny's failure in IT.

Anyhoo, dear old Ed (scared shitless by the public outcry, as I noted yesterday) has said he will review this lousy scheme.

Unfortunately he has passed the responsibility for the review to Sir Roger "The Dodger" Singleton (who has set the thing up). "The Dodger", who doesn't exactly exude charisma, bleated helplessly that this legislation was passed by parliament three years ago and that it was our "beloved" MPs who put this scheme together.

One might ask where were the Tories and Liberals then, and why didn't they kick up a fuss?

BTW folks, I warned about this in May 2008.

One might also ask why is it that our MPs are incapable of passing legislation that isn't full of holes?

As noted yesterday, Nanny is wounded. However, she is not yet ready to surrender, this needs to be taken to its final stage; to this end I suggest that you bombard your MPs, Balls and the media with your views as to why it is wrong.

It will be the only way to kill off this dangerous idea.

Educashun - Nanny Bans Schools

EducashunWell the New Year has started with something of a "bang", thanks to Nanny's latest pronouncement wrt educashun.

Those of you with long memories may well recall our "beloved" ex PM, Tony Bliar, stating that "educashun, educashun, educashun" was ZaNuLabour's top priority.

Well folks, Nanny has finally lived up to her promise. Fearful that the word "school" alienates pupils and prevents them from learning, Nanny has banned it and instead wants "schools" to be called "learning centres" or some other pc bollocks name.

FYI, the rot started when Nanny decreed that all polytechnics were in fact "universities".....we all believe that, don't we children???

Anyhoo, I digress, Watercliffe Meadow Primary in Sheffield has adopted the new phraseology.

Linda Kingdon, the head teacher, said that the change would bring the school (sorry "place of learning") closer to real life.

Pah!

I guess on the planet where she lives that may be true, but here on earth that is complete BS.

Here are the words of "wisdom" from Kingdon (who Nanny would have us believe is an "educator"):

"This is Watercliffe Meadow, a place for learning. One reason was many of the parents of the children here had very negative connotations of school.

Instead, we want this to a be a place for family learning, where anyone can come. We were able to start from scratch and create a new type of learning experience. There are no whistles or bells or locked doors. We wanted to deinstitutionalise the place and bring the school closer to real life
."

Dear oh dear, are people like this really allowed to be near children?

Quite how a laissez faire "learning centre" will prepare children for the adult working world of punch cards, monotony, commuting timetables (I know they don't reflect reality) and drudgery I don't know.

I wonder when Nanny will tell the poor little sods in her educashunal system that many of them ain't got no future, and that Nanny won't be able to afford to wipe their bottoms in the future?

The Dangers of Gravy

Danger Unexploded GravyIt looks like I had my pre Christmas piss up just in time last week, as Nanny has just issued a warning leaflet explaining all manners of dangers presented by the forthcoming binge/bloat fest officially known as Christmas.

Gosh had I read the leaflet, I would never have ventured out last Friday!

FNAAAR!

Anyhoo, Nanny safety leaflet (issued in the form of an Advent style calendar) warns about the dangers of gravy "exploding" in microwaves, pissed people falling over (gosh!) and Christmas tree baubles.

Nanny's knobheads from Ed Balls' Department for Children, Schools and Families have issued 150,000 of the leaflets called "Tis The Season To Be Careful". I have no idea why they think this will help people enjoy Christmas.

Why oh why do we allow these people to remain in government?

Anyhoo, my advice to you all is to ignore Nanny and have it large this Christmas!

Balls Talks Balls Again

BallsI see Nanny's best chum, Ed Balls (Education Minister), has opened his trap again and let forth a stream of bullshit.

As ever Nanny and Balls are concerned about our fatness; specifically, they are concerned about the fatness of children.

Nanny, as we know, has already introduced "healthy" meals to school canteens in the hope that she can wean children off their diet of shite.

In theory this may be a noble idea. However, it is destined to fail:

1 Children throughout the ages have always had a predisposition to eat shite (eg crisps, chocolate, gobstoppers and vast quantities of chips etc).

2 The "battle" to make kids eat veg and more "adult" food can only be won on the home front, when they are pre school. Lazy parents who do not enforce eating discipline (ie eating veg), and instead allow the kids to rule the dining table, create a spoilt unhealthy child who will only eat shite who will in turn become a fat unhealthy immature adult.

Anyhoo, Balls wants more than just healthy meals at schools he also wants to ban kids form leaving school premises during lunch breaks (lest they go and buy a bag of chips) and to ban fast food outlets from opening near schools.

Here's why this is bollocks:

1 Schools are not prison camps, yet!

2 Adults also live near schools, and have the right to have free and unfettered access to goods and services; adults should not be forced to take second place to children.

The Enemy of The People - Classroom Spies II

The Enemy of The People - Classroom Spies IIContinuing on from yesterday's article about Classroom Spies, the following comment was made by one visitor to this site:

"Its true and is happening!

Our son came home from school on Thursday and told us that their class had been asked to do an on-line survey. Many very personal questions were asked about their parents & homelife
."

Now here are the questions/points that I would ask/raise with this school, were I parent confronted with learning that my child had to answer an online survey of this nature:

1 What are the security arrangements wrt the data collected?

2 Does it comply with the data protection act?

3 Who will have access to this data?

4 As the child is a minor, parental permission should have been sought before personal data such as this was collected. Why was no permission sought?

5 What do you intend to do with this data?

6 I do not give you permission to collect, use or share this data. Delete it immediately.

Having raised those points with the school, make a formal complaint to the Data Commissioner.

The Enemy of The People - Classroom Spies

The Enemy of The People - Classroom SpiesNanny, like all dictators, needs to know what we are doing and thinking. There are several methods that she employs in order to monitor our activities:

1 Direct surveillance, eg via CCTV

2 Database records, eg via official forms, DNA, finger printing etc

3 Council spies

4 Encouraging citizens to "grass" on their fellow citizens to the state

5 Using professionals to spy and gather records for the state

A recent example of the latter being the new requirements being levied by Nanny on schools to "improve children's well being".

How will schools improve children's well being?

Easy, teachers will be expected to monitor and record up to 31 detailed aspects of their pupils' lives at home and at school.

This brilliant idea comes from the febrile mind of the chum of Nanny, our old friend Ed Balls.

Nanny and Balls want to introduce "strong school level indicators" that measure how much the country's primaries and secondaries are contributing to pupils' well-being.

Schools and local authorities will be made to gather data about "on site health services" such as contraception clinics which hand out condoms and morning after pills.

They will also be expected to monitor healthy eating, look out for "signs of abuse or neglect" and record whether pupils walk or cycle to school.

Errrmmm...am I the only one who thinks that this sounds awfully like spying on the private lives of the pupils and their families?

It would seem that all employees of the state, ie all public sector employees, are to become tools of the state and will be required to monitor what the rest of us do. In other words, Nanny is turning the public sector into the enemy of the people.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has issued draft guidance which says:

"Whereas schools have access to a rich set of hard data on pupil attainment and progress to inform their evaluation . . . there is a dearth of data available about other aspects of pupil well being.

The proposal aims to fill that gap in order to improve the quality of schools' evaluation of their contribution to well-being
."

Balls said that schools will be "accountable for whether they are contributing to child well-being".

It's called spying!

The public sector, and those who work for it, will become the enemy of the people.

Balls Talks Balls

Balls Talks Balls
Ed Balls, Nanny's special little friend in the Educashun Department, has given us all the benefit of his special insight into the subject of educashun again.

This time he has waxed lyrical on SATs for six and seven year olds. In his view, children should not be told that they are sitting an exam before they sit it, as it might stress them out!

Balls in fact said that he was angry with schools that had informed parents in advance, when children in a primary school would sit their compulsory Key Stage 1 tests.

"I cannot believe they are doing that. They should not be doing that.

The best head teachers will ensure that no six or seven-year-old knows they are doing SATs. If you are telling pupils in Year 2 that they are doing SATs then that's the wrong thing. You should not be stressing the children
."

In Lah Lah Land, where Balls lives, that might work. However, in reality that doesn't work:

1 Schools need to have routine, and exams need to be planned in advance.

2 Kids will face far more stressful events in their lives, giving them advance warning of an exam helps them prepare.

3 Learning to cope with stress is an important part of growth and development.

4 Rumours about upcoming SATs will inevitably leak, and cause more stress to the uniformed.

5 How else are you meant to prepare for an exam if you don't know one is coming?

Balls By Name, Balls By Nature

BallsNanny's special little pet, Ed Balls (Schools Secretary), is living up to his name by recently spouting complete shite.

In his view, and this is the most amazing piece of Big Brother "double speak" that I have read in a long while, grammar schools damage educational standards.

Just think about that for minute.

Balls is saying that by trying to turn out well educated pupils, grammar schools are damaging educational standards.

What kind of standards is Nanny setting herself?

Nanny and Balls have a priority to "improve" the quality of educashun in their state run schools. Fair enough, and quite correct.

Now you and I would do this by improving the quality of educashun, teaching and stretching the pupils.

Not so under the Balls "vision". His method is simple, ensure that the most gifted children are not syphoned off by grammar schools, that way the average performance of the state school will rise by default; even if it means that those who are bright will be held back by the slowest in the class.

A great way to run an education system, and a very regressive step back to the old Labour policy of class war and envy.

Balls went on to say that the system left secondary modern pupils feeling as if they were failures. Wee all fail at some stage in life, those who survive are those who pick themselves up and try again. Nanny would have us collapse in crumpled heap on the floor in self pity and self loathing, never to try again.

Balls stated in black and white:

"Let me make it clear that I don't like selection. We don't support new grammar schools.

Overall, secondary moderns are around twice as likely to be below the 30 per cent benchmark than the average school. I've heard first-hand how some of the young people starting in these schools feel on day one that they have already failed.
"

This is the politics of division and envy, something that Labour should have abandoned decades ago.

Balls would do well to remember that those who are often most disruptive in class, are those who are not being stretched or challenged by the system. Grammar schools offer an opportunity for stretching bright pupils, Nanny should not try to deny them that opportunity.

Gutless

GutlessOn the 18th of May the Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill passed through the commons.

The Bill will remove Parliament from the scope of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and create a new exemption for MPs' communications with public authorities. It has been explained as a measure that would protect the privacy of MPs' constituents.

In a letter to MPs, the Campaign for Freedom of Information has said that it believes that the bill is unnecessary for this purpose.

Correspondence sent by an MP to a public authority, on behalf of a constituent, is already exempt under the FOI Act's existing exemptions. Moreover, the Campaign says this does not explain why it is proposed to remove Parliament itself (which does not hold MPs' correspondence) from the FOI Act's scope.

On the 18th there was an opportunity, via filibuster, to talk the bill down and to wreck it. Unfortunately, aside from those MP's with the guts to at least openly support the bill, there were those MP's who were gutless and chose to hide their true views from the voters by not voting in the third motion.

These gutless MPs voted for the closure motion, but then didn't vote in the Third Reading. Just 16 minutes later.

This means that they supported the Bill, as they did not join in the attempt to filibuster. However, they were gutless and chose not to put on record that they supported it in the Third Reading division itself.

Here are the names of the gutless MPs:

-Christopher Chope, Christchurch (Con)
-Jonathan Djanogly, Huntingdon (Con)
-Stephen Hammond, Wimbledon (Con)
-Nick Hurd, Ruislip - Northwood (Con)
-Eleanor Laing, Epping Forest (Con)
-Shailesh Vara, North West Cambridgeshire (Con)

-Edward Balls, Normanton (Lab, minister)
-Ian Cawsey, Brigg & Goole (Lab, minister)
-Paul Clark, Gillingham (Lab (PPS))
-Vernon Coaker, Gedling (Lab, minister)
-Barry Gardiner, Brent North (Lab, minister)
-Roger Godsiff, Birmingham, Sparkbrook & Small Heath (Lab)
-Mike O'Brien, North Warwickshire (Lab, minister)
-Bridget Prentice, Lewisham East (Lab, minister)
-Joan Ruddock, Lewisham, Deptford (Lab)
-Barry Sheerman, Huddersfield (Lab)
-Jacqui Smith, Redditch (Lab, minister)
-Gerry Sutcliffe, Bradford South (Lab, minister)

Feel free to write to them, and tell them what you think of their gutless behaviour.

Those who stand for public office should have the courage of their convictions, even if they are wrong, to state them publicly.

The gutless ones above should be removed from office without delay.
