Office Cakes As Dangerous as Passive Smoking!

Bringing cake into the office should be seen as harmful to your colleagues in the same way as passive smoking, the chairwoman of Britain’s top food watchdog has said.

Professor Susan Jebb, professor of diet and population health at the University of Oxford and a member of The Times Health Commission, said it was not enough to rely on the “extraordinary efforts” of personal willpower needed to avoid overeating in a society that is constantly plying people with food.

“We all like to think we’re rational, intelligent, educated people who make informed choices the whole time and we undervalue the impact of the environment.

If nobody brought in cakes into the office, I would not eat cakes in the day, but because people do bring cakes in, I eat them. Now, OK, I have made a choice, but people were making a choice to go into a smoky pub.”

I don't smoke cake,

I don't eat cake,

I don't feel threatened by people eating cake!

Nanny Exterminates Dalek Cakes

Nanny is getting worked up over a Doctor Who chocolate Dalek cupcake, which has more calories than three McDonald’s burgers, which the BBC's CBBC is showing kids how to make.

Noel Janis-Norton, of the Calmer, Easier, Happier Parenting Centre, said:
“You would expect the BBC to know better than to be putting out unhealthy recipes like these.”
Tam Fry, chairman of the National Obesity Forum, said:
“It is irresponsible of the BBC to promote these recipes.

They are loaded with unhealthy ingredients.”
FFS!

On the assumption that these are only eaten once in a while as treats, the evil sugar and calories will pose no problem.

Teaching kids how to cook, and to ensure they understand how to eat responsibly and not like pigs is a good thing!

Nanny Bans Work Birthday Cakes

Our old chums PHE have yet again stuck their haggard noses in to where they are not wanted. This time the object of their ire is the office birthday cake.

In new guidance, Public Health England said those who wanted to buy or make a colleague a cake on their birthday should look for ‘healthier alternatives’.

The advice includes a ‘toolkit for employers’, which provides managers with tips on how to help their staff eat more healthily.

The guidance said:
‘Begin a conversation about how special events (birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, promotions) are marked at work. Can “cake days” be shared, or healthier alternatives be provided?’
PHE can fuck right off!

The End of The Cinnamon Roll As We Know It

My sympathies to the good people of Denmark, who may have enjoyed their last Christmas eating kanelsnegler (cinnamon rolls).

For why?

It seems that Euro Nanny wants to ban them, because they contain levels of coumarin (a natural toxic chemical) that exceed EU limits. Sadly the chemical is found in cassi, the cinnamon used in baking the rolls.

Quite how many Danes have died from eating kanelsnegler is not clear, I doubt it to be that many!

However, the Danish food safety agency is taking no chances, and intends to implement EU rules. The irony being that in Sweden the Swedes are ignoring the rules, and are happily munching their way through kanelbullar (which contains three times the permitted levels of cinnamon).

Hardy Christensen, the head of the Danish Baker's Association, was quoted by the Telegraph:
"It's the end of the cinnamon roll as we know it.
Cinnamon rolls are of course a traditional Danish baked product. We've been making bread and cakes with cinnamon for 200 years."
Cinnamon is used in many dishes, eg curry, will Nanny be banning that as well?

Nanny Unbans Cakes

On Tuesday I wrote that Nanny had banned a mother and daughter from selling homemade cakes at the daughter's school, because of health and safety concerns.

It seems that this story and other similar ones have prompted the Food Standards Authority (FSA) to engage its brain and apply some commonsense. My thanks to a loyal reader who pointed me to the  FSA statement that volunteer cooks and charity groups, who occasionally prepare food for community events, are not covered by EU laws that have been invoked to ban people from preparing food on an occasional basis for others to consume.

This means that occasional cooks are no longer need to possess a food hygiene certificate before they are allowed to offer their wares for sale.

As per the Mail:
"There is no rule banning the sale of homemade cakes at school fĂȘtes or other community events."
Nice to see the FSA using some commonsense!

Nanny Bans Cakes

Oh dear not for the first time I see that Nanny has got her knickers in a twist over the baking and selling of cakes for charity.

This time Nanny's gimlet eye has focused on the activities of Georgie Hippolite, 12, who was hoping to sell some cakes to her classmates from Cowes Enterprise College on the Isle of Wight for charity as she had done before.

Unfortunately her mum, Kirsty, who was actually baking the cakes received a call from the school asking her if she had the correct qualifications (ie those held by catering professionals). Sadly Georgie’s tutor told her that “health and safety” regulations meant that her cakes were unfit for sale.

Mrs Hippolite is quoted by the Express:
“I couldn’t stop myself from laughing as he told me the school could be sued if a pupil fell ill after eating one of my cakes.

It’s ridiculous. People have been baking cakes at home for sale at fetes and village fairs for years. My kitchen is spotless and nobody has ever fallen ill after eating my food.”
The tutor told her that other pupils planned to take in slices, cupcakes and sponges bought at supermarkets.

I wonder which is the more dangerous, a home baked cake or one made in a factory full of chemicals?

Mrs Hippolite knows:
“My girls never eat that sort of food because it is often pumped full of artificial preservatives and e-numbers. I would rather make them something fresh and natural.”
Prepare yourselves for the real laugh though.

Can you guess what happened to the cakes (the "dangerous" ones) that Mrs Hippolite had baked, but was not allowed to sell to the kids?

Yes, that's right, Georgie's tutor suggested that they be taken to the school for the staff to eat (the staff would then make a donation for each cake eaten)!

You couldn't make this up, could you?

Cupcakes - The New Cocaine?

I see that the Telegraph published an article over the weekend that likened cupcakes to cocaine:
"We think we like cupcakes because they are “retro” and transport us back to our childhoods.

Nonsense. The nostalgia thing is an excuse.

We actually like them because they allow us to mainline sugar. Sugar is one of the substances and objects that are carving new patterns of addictive behaviour in a disorientated world.

Along with prescription drugs, internet porn, computer games and dozens of other consumer items, we are forming an intimate relationship with sugary snacks that supplements and complements the “traditional” addictions to alcohol, gambling and illegal drugs.

Increasing numbers of doctors think sugar does more harm to our arteries and our waistlines than fat etc etc."
Doubtless we will see Nanny banning grannies from having cupcakes, cherry bakewells and battenberg slices in the near future.

Anyhoo, I personally think that it was remarkably irresponsible of the Telegraph to publish such an article without a health warning, as I now have one of Mr Kipling's finest stuck up my left nostril!

Nanny Bans Cake Again

CakeThe design team are very pleased that you all like the new logo so much:)

In celebration they were going to bake you all a cake. However, they then read what the numpties of Knowsley Borough Council (KBC) and Chester University (CU) have been up to, and decided against it.

KBC and CU have set up something called "The Pre-School Nutrition Project", which (as befits a bunch of Nanny wanabees) sets out strict rules for food supplied at nurseries.

Sweets and cakes brought in for children's birthdays cannot be eaten in the nursery, but must be handed to parents at the end of the day.

Now I know that, according to Nanny, we have become a nation of fat bastards. However, making everyone paranoid about what they eat (especially at such a young age) will turn many into body hating anorexics or body hating overeaters.

Julie Tierney, the Assistant Public Health Director behind the scheme, droned on to some media organ or other:

"Our Health & Wellbeing's Early Years Healthy Eating Guidelines encourage nurseries to provide healthy snacks and treats for all children in their care, and encourages them to choose foods and drinks that are not high in sugar as part of a healthy lifestyle.

It is important that special days are celebrated and nurseries are innovative and creative in the way that they do this without the need to give foods high in sugar
."

I didn't know that under fives had a "lifestyle" as such!

Birthday cakes, as such, do not create morbidly obese kids (unless they scoff an entire cake by themselves each day).

Feed a child freshly prepared decent food at set times, allow them the occasional treat (eg cake, chocolate etc) and learn to say "no" to excess; thus you will produce a healthy adult, who has some self control and self respect over what they eat.

Excessive control over every mouthful will create a neurotic adult who is overweight, through excessive comfort eating, or anorexic.

Nanny Bans Cake

Nanny Bans CakesNow I am not too old to remember that when I was a young lad when it was my birthday, my mum would bake a cake and my friends would come over, cause mayhem and share the cake.

Pretty normal stuff right?

Not in Nanny's world!

Olivia Morris, nine years old, wanted to share her granny's homemade chocolate birthday cake with her friends at Rockingham Infant and Junior School in Rotherham.

Not so fast Olivia!

The cake, an unctuous creation of chocolate decorated with Maltesers and Jellytots, was deemed "ungood" by the miserable followers of Nanny at her school.

The school banned her from sharing it with her friends, because it did not comply with healthy eating rules.

By all means promote healthy eating. However, part of the healthy eating concept should allow for the occasional treat. Unless you teach children self discipline, wrt having treats on occasions without "binging", they will never learn self control.

Needless to say this absurdly hard line policy will only put the children off "healthy" eating, and make the teachers look like miserable old fools.

The staff at the school should be thankful that this was a harmless birthday indulgence. Some less well brought up kids at that age would have been cracking open a can of cider and sniffing some glue in celebration.

Punishing Olivia for a harmless birthday treat sends entirely the wrong message.

BTW, the best birthday cake my mum ever made was a chocolate Swiss roll fashioned in the shape of a space rocket, covered in chocolate and set on a "moonbase".

Prats of The Week

Prats of The WeekGoodness me, it has been a wee while since I have awarded my prestigious and world renowned "Prats of The Week" Award.

Therefore, without any further ado, I am pleased to be able to award St Pancras Station (the bar to be precise) my "Prats of The Week" award.

For why?

They banned the use of one solitary birthday candle on a birthday cake, lest it pose a health and safety hazard!

Michael Leventhal wanted to celebrate his lady friend's birthday a couple of months ago at the bar, which is the longest champagne bar in Europe.

He therefore booked the bar, and e-mailed a request for help in arranging a birthday surprise.

Mr Leventhal asked whether he could bring a candle (a massive 4 incher!) and have it placed on a cake, brought to the bar and presented to his companion when she was not expecting it.

Guess what happened next?

Mr Leventhal was told that a full risk assessment of children's candle would have to be made, before it could be allowed on the premises.

Pass the sick bag someone!

Who allowed these petty minded twats to dictate to us in this manner?

I recall the Hitchhicker's Guide to The Galaxy, where Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent end up on spaceship carrying an assortment of risk assessment "experts" and their ilk, who had been thrwon off their own planet because they were a pain in the derriere.

Oh how I wish......

However, I digress, it seems that no one at St Pancrearse station was prepared to go out on limb for this "highly dangerous" request, until a senior official signed off on it.

An e-mail from Raymond Lay, the bar's events manager, said:

"I have asked the station operations if we would be allowed to have a lit candle at the champagne bar for a birthday cake and they have said that we will have to submit a risk assessment form stating what the risk will be to the bar and the station, and what we will put in place to combat any possible risks.

The risk assessment form will then be put to Mike Page (head of station operations).

Unfortunately Mike Page will not be back from holiday . . . so the champagne bar would not be able to let you light the candle for your friend's birthday cake
."

St Pancrearse station is standing by its guns, and have stated that there is a danger from naked flames so a risk assessment was required. If permission had been granted, a spokesman said, a fire extinguisher would have had to be on stand-by in case the candle burnt out of control.

I am very glad that these people were not around when man first invented fire, can you imagine the discussion that would have taken place then?

"What is it?"

"It's fire"

"What does it do?"

"It burns things"

"Sorry mate, that's a fire hazard; it's more than my job's worth."

etc etc...

St Pancrearse station was built at the time of steam, when fire was used to heat the water in the engines.

Yet it survived that!

It also survived the bombing during the last war.

Now it seems that one 4 inch candle threatens the entire infrastructure, what the hell have they built the new station with?

Petrol?

Would not a glass of water been enough to extinguish the conflagration of a 4 inch candle?

St Pancrearse station, well deserving Prats of The Week!

Let them know that they have won via this form St Pancrearse.

Nanny Bans Pancakes Again

Nanny Bans Pancakes AgainHappy Shrove Tuesday everyone!

Traditionally a day when people mix a batter of flour, eggs and milk and toss it frantically in a frying pan.

Well that was the tradition, until Nanny put her nose into things. Three years ago I wrote about Nanny banning pancakes, now she is up to her old tricks again.

The Shrove Tuesday annual pancake race in Ripon has been scrapped this year because of health and safety considerations.

The revived event (originally dating back 600 years) has been carried out for the last 11 years in modern times; with local children, traders, clergy and soldiers taking part.

Unfortunately, Nanny's health and safety Gestapo have put their size ten jackboots into the batter and have caused the event to be cancelled.

For why?

The Dean of Ripon, the Very Rev Keith Jukes, co-organiser of the races, explained:

"We have looked at this and there are a number of reasons it won't take place and a big reason sadly this year is health and safety.

Any organisation which runs an event has to go through a number of risk assessments. The insurance companies demand it and in the end you have to work out whether it's a risk you take.

There is also the whole issue of road closures which can be an expensive business
."

Pass the sick bag someone!

A risk assessment for a pancake race?

The insurance companies, and councils that kowtow to them, are destroying the fabric of people's daily lives.

It is time that these two malign influences on our lives were cut out from society, in the manner that one would cut out a scrofulous tumour.

In order to really annoy Nanny, here is a nice recipe for Swedish pancakes; go on, live a little!

Ingredients

- 2 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Lingonberries or raspberries
- Seedless raspberry jam or fruit spread, warmed Whipped topping

Preparation

In a blender, combine the first six ingredients. Cover and process until blended. Heat a lightly greased 8-in. nonstick skillet; pour 1/4 cup batter into centre of skillet. Lift and tilt pan to evenly coat bottom.

Cook until top appears dry; turn and cook 15-20 seconds longer. Repeat with remaining batter, adding oil to skillet as needed. Stack pancakes with waxed paper or paper towels in between. Reheat in the microwave if desired.

Fold pancakes into quarters; serve with berries, raspberry jam and whipped topping.

Please note it contains eggs, milk, salt and sugar...all the things that Nanny hates!

Happy Shrove Tuesday everyone!

Get tossing!

The Lunchbox Inspectors

Ken's Lunchbox
Oh dear, is there nothing that Nanny and her trolls won't poke their noses into?

Now it seems that dinner ladies could soon be used to monitor school lunchboxes, in order to ensure that children are eating healthy meals.

Under Nanny's "obesity strategy" (give me strength!), there are plans to force all schools to implement a "healthy lunchbox policy".

Good grief!

Seemingly parents may even be asked to sign a form agreeing to ban unhealthy foods from their children's lunches.

Nanny has also called on heads to stop children from leaving schoolgrounds during lunchtimes.

Well, I realise that schools are not places that any child wants to be in, but really....do we have to make them prison camps???

When I was a "nipper" my mum would make me a nice lunchbox containing a myriad of delights, eg:

-a thermos of soup
-a banana sandwich
-homemade crisps (with added salt and grated cheese)
-a chocolate cup cake, or Jaffa cakes

Nanny wouldn't have approved of much of that.

Even the soup was risky, one day I dropped the thermos and the vacuum glass interior broke. Being a thickheaded child I happily drank the contents anyway, wondering why there were silver bits in the soup.

When I came back home I told my mum about this, and she promptly rushed me off to the doctor.

"Don't worry Mrs Frost, they don't use mercury now and whatever he swallowed will come out later."

Look at me now...perfectly healthy, and fully functional!

As Margaret Morrissey, of the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations, said:

"We don't need politicians to tell us what to put in our lunchboxes."

Quite!

Once Nanny has implemented this policy it will dawn on her that the kids' diet is dictated, in the main, by what they eat at home.

Next step, Nanny will be inspecting people's dining tables (yes, I know people don't use tables anymore!).

Nanny Bans Mince Pies

Nanny Bans Mince Pies
"Tis the season to be merry,

Trah Lah Lah
..."

It's that time of year again where people do their best to have a good time, and Nanny does her best to stick her nose in where it is not wanted.

Nanny's chum Neil Davies, headmaster at Mynydd Cynffig Junior School in Kenfig Hill, has decreed that home-made mince pies and other Christmas cakes are to be banned, because in his view they pose a health and safety threat.

The children at his school were looking forward to taking their mothers' highly toxic cakes to the school's annual Christmas sale.

However, Davies banned them because he believes that some children have allergies to certain foods and he could never be sure of the ingredients which had been used in home-made produce.

Quote:

"There is a risk of someone becoming ill

from something home-made.

I don't know what the ingredients are

and there are allergies.

Because of things like that,

we made a decision as a school.

I have had no complaints from anyone

linked to the school about this.

I have got to guarantee the health

and safety of the pupils
."

Here's why he is talking bollocks:

1 There is a risk in every food product we eat

2 You cannot eliminate risk

3 To attempt to wrap children in cotton wool is a very bad way to prepare them for the real world

4 He has not got to "guarantee" health and safety

5 How many thousands of kids die each year from eating mince pies?

6 Children and adults eat themselves sick over Christmas

7 Home made food is better than shop made shite

8 I bet he has had complaints...

Here's a complaint, one mother is quoted:

"It seems crazy.

We invited our children's friends round

for parties at home and serve up mince pies

we've cooked,

so what's the difference selling them

at the Christmas school fair
?"

Children wrapped in cotton wool make lousy adults, denying them a decent level of exposure to the real world is a form of abuse.

Prats of The Week

Prats of The WeekWell folks, it's that time again...time to award my coveted "Prat of The Week" award.

This time the award goes to the Trading Standards team of Dorset County Council (ah how refreshing, yet another local council making a fool of itself!).

So, what have they done to deserve this award?

Well the good old boys from the Trading Standards team were examining the Sgt Bub Bakery in Weymouth, which has been run by Val Temple for the last 30 years or so. The team unearthed a horrifying discovery, concerning the ingredients of some of Val's cakes.

What was that then Ken?

Did they contain poison?

No!

Were they made with GM products?

No! (and who gives a stuff anyway?)

Was the bakery dirty?

No!

It turns out that Vals' Paradise Slice didn't come from paradise, her Pig Tarts contained no pork and her Robin Tarts didn't contain any robins.

Yes, that's right, Val was accused of mislabelling the products and has to change the names of them.

So, let us be absolutely clear, the good old boys in Trading Standards were worried that people would be buying the products under the mistaken belief that they contained pigs, robins and a little bit of paradise.

How stupid do they think that we are?

What about Swiss rolls, shepherd's pies or baby's head puddings (the correct name for steak and kidney pudding) then?

Val is needless to say totally unimpressed with this.

Quote:

"It's a joke. It's an insult to the public.

Of course my cakes don't contain pig,

robin or come from paradise.

Where is paradise anyway?

It's absolutely ridiculous.

What's next - Shepherd's Pie?

Where will it all end?

You could apply it to everything.

It's so silly
."

The Paradise Slice is made from a 120-year-old recipe and includes almonds, sultanas and cherries. The fact that people have eaten this slice for 120 years without any problems is of course irrelevant to Nanny's Trading Standards, the slice will now be called an "almond, fruit and nut" slice.

Val noted:

"The Trading Standards have been coming here

for the last 26 years and only this year

have they made this decision.

A woman officer came in and said they were

acting on a complaint over my labelling
."

At this point I have to ask, what sad loser made the complaint in the first place? What kind of person has such an empty life that they make an effort to raise such a complaint?

Why did Dorset County Council waste tax payers' money on this fools errand?

A customer, James Marper, wryly observed:

"It's complete madness.

What are they going to ban next - spotted dick?

Who do these officials think they are?

Where has common sense gone?

Val should bake a "nutty as a fruitcake"

to mock the small-minded people who have

had the nerve to enforce these rules.

Tax payers are shelling out so much money

and to see it being paid to these

interfering idiots is extremely disheartening
."

That is the reality of living in the Nanny state, small minded zealots are allowed to wield power over those of us who are capable of exercising common sense and who take responsibility for our own actions.

Ivan Hancock, Dorset County Council's Trading Standards manager, said:

"The fact is that food needs to be properly described

so that the consumer can tell what it is.

There is nothing wrong with using other names

but it must be accompanied by the true name of the food.

Consumers have the right to know what is in food
."

The customer could of course just ask Val what is in the cake, surely???

Dorset County Council Trading Standards team, well deserving of the Prats of The Week award.

Feel free to drop them a note here tradingstandards@dorsetcc.gov.uk

Whilst we are on the subject, are there any other products that would upset the Trading Standards team (eg Spitfire Ale contains no spitfires)?

Tuck Off!

Tuck OffNanny's hatred of individual liberty and freedom knows no bounds, as Ryan Staples found to his cost the other week.

Ryan, who is only 10 years old, was in the habit of taking a packed lunch to his school (Lunsford primary in Larkfield). At least he was, until the school's Gestapo intercepted his lunch box.

Ryan's crime?

The lunch box broke Nanny's rules on what we are allowed to eat.

The result?

Ryan has been banned from eating with the rest of his mates in the school dining room, until he learns to bow his head to Nanny's superior wisdom, and until he brings only "allowed" food in his lunch box.

Whilst he weighs up the pros and cons of bending to Nanny's authoritarian rules, he has to eat alone in the headmaster's office. That really is cruel and nasty.

How pathetic is this?

Child abuse wouldn't you say?

By the way, in case you are wondering what was so evil about the food within his lunchbox (drugs maybe?), it contained two snacks, instead of one.

Specifically Ryan's lunch consisted of a sandwich, fruit, fromage frais, cake, mini cheese biscuits and a bottle of water. The cake and the biscuits broke the snack limit.

They were "discovered" when a teacher checked his lunch box.

Why the hell are teachers inspecting lunch boxes?

That is an invasion of privacy, all the more so because Ryan is not old enough to fight back.

Malcolm Goddard, the headmaster, said:

"We take healthy eating very seriously and everyone is aware of our new policies."

Breathtaking arrogance!

As a child I took a lunchbox to school, it contained all manner of weird and wonderful oddities; banana sandwiches, chocolate cup cakes, hot soup, home made crisps etc.

The teachers never ever tried to inspect the food, or interfere with what we ate (they were down the pub). I am now 44, and in good shape (oh yes:)).

Nanny quite clearly intends to break the will and spirit of every citizen in Britain, she starts with the children so as to make her task easier.

Nanny Bans Birthdays

Nanny Bans BirthdaysOnce in a while Nanny does try to do the right thing, and make a positive difference to our lives.

Eh?

What's that you say Ken?

Straight up folks, I kid you not.

One such attempt has been her work in trying to reduce the amount of age discrimination in the workplace. As an aside, a few years go before I hit 40, I was talking to a so called "recruitment professional" (worse than estate agents in my view) about consultancy. His advice was that once you are over 35 (yes 35) you are too old!

However, I digress, as with all of Nanny's attempts to improve things they tend to go wrong; because they hit the wrong target, or because the legislation is so sloppily drafted that the practice becomes over officious and over prescriptive.

Nanny's anti age discrimination laws are a case in point. Aside from the fact that age discrimination is currently hard wired into all aspects of society (eg adverts for "fun/useful" products only target the under 30's), Nannys new rules have been drafted in such a way as to ensure that people are now applying them in an absurdly prescriptive manner.

Alan & Thomas insurance brokers in Bournemouth have taken Nanny's new rules to heart by banning the circulation of birthday cards for staff to sign, amid concern that light hearted "ageist" comments could unwittingly breach Nanny's new age discrimination laws.

Seemingly remarks such as "It's better to be over the hill than under it" or references to bus passes could cause offence, the company said following legal advice.

The new laws allow staff to take action against their company, if they feel they have been harassed or victimised due to their age.

Alan & Thomas will now send a card to each staff member on their birthday, signed by the directors.

Personal cards from individual members of staff are still allowed, as are cakes.

Julian Boughton, the firm's managing director, said:

"The new rules outlawing age discrimination are a potential

minefield for both employers and employees.

Every business should be taking action.

Often employees don't realise the implications of what they are writing
."

Neil Gouldson, an employment law specialist at Rowe Cohen, said:

"Gags in birthday cards about people being 'over the hill' will need to be curbed."

For fark's sake!

Meanwhile, if you are elderly and end up in one of Nanny's less well run "homes" for the elderly and infirm; you may well be starved, maltreated or abused. Why doesn't Nanny legislate against that?

Nanny Bans Cakes

Nanny Bans CakesNanny really is pathetic at times, her rules and regulations seek to sap the very spirit and sense of joy out of people and out of their lives.

Elaine Richards (a retired district nurse) made a cake for friend of hers, who is 96 and a regular at an Age Concern Day Centre in Barnstaple Devon.

Nothing wrong with that I hear you say...

How wrong you are!

You see, the cake was made at home and in Nanny's view the home is a very dangerous place (she can't control it you see!).

Therefore the cake was banned.

Ms Richards was told, when she arrived with the cake, that it broke hygiene regulations and that the OAP's were only allowed to eat cakes bought from shops.

Ms Richards said:

"It's nonsensical. I couldn't believe it.

I have a family of four who will vouch for my cooking.

The worst anyone has had is indigestion!

My cakes are healthy.

The rules are completely daft
."

Andrea Scott of Age Concern, said:

"We have many frail and elderly come here and some are diabetic.

If we let one person do this, the floodgates are open.

We don't know where these cakes come from.

If something went wrong, we could be sued
."

Ms Scott said that Age Concern was supported by the local environmental health department.

Here we see how pathetic Nanny's rules are, the day centre is quite happy to allow their clients to eat shop bought cakes.

Why would a shop cake, no doubt filled with all sorts of chemical shit and made by people on a production line, be any safer than a homemade one?

As said, the reason for banning the cake has nothing to do with people's health or wellbeing, it is down to the fact that for moment Nanny can't control what happens in people's homes.

She absolutely hates that!

Needless to say Ms Richards and her friend consumed the cake at home, outwith Nanny's malign influence.

Those of you wishing to try the forbidden cake might like to know that it contains the following highly dangerous ingredients:

-9oz flour
-6oz unsalted butter
-6oz sugar
-milk
-three eggs
-candied peel
-lemon zest

No doubt all of the above will be banned in the near future!

Nanny Arrests Gollys

Nanny Arrests GollysNanny, you will recall, many moons ago banned Gollies on the basis that they were deemed to be racist.

However, sometimes with Nanny simply banning things does not quite give her the "kick" that she used to get in her younger days. Therefore she has to resort to more draconian measures in order to feel the same "rush".

Nanny's chums in the West Mercia police were in need a of a little "rush" themselves recently, evidently arresting criminals doesn't quite provide the same buzz that it used to. Therefore they decided to arrest some Gollies, who were "loitering with intent" in a shop window.

The dolls were seized from the window of a shop on suspicion of causing "alarm, harassment or distress" under Section 5 of the Public Order Act. I can't quite see the scenes of "alarm and distress" that a few stuffed toys can have caused, but evidently as the result of one complaint from some sad individual the police felt that they had to act; you know that they always act very quickly when it comes to robberies and other acts of criminality.

The dolls were on display in the window of Pettifer's hardware and general store in Bromyard Herefordshirewhen, owned by Donald Reynolds.

Mr Reynolds feels that the entire event was "a ridiculous farce".

He was having lunch on February 12, when the police called. He was asked to bring a key to the shop, where he found an officer.

Quote:

"He said, 'I've come about the gollies. We've had a complaint they are causing offence'.

I couldn't believe it
."

The officer then clambered into the window display and seized the dolls. I would note at this stage that it is perfectly legal to sell Golliwoggs. However, Nanny warned Mr Reynolds that putting them on display could be judged offensive.

Mr Reynolds had bought 100 Golliwoggs in three sizes, and they had been selling like "hot cakes".

Mr Reynolds added:

"When I realised what the police wanted with me that day I thought, this is society gone mad.

When the police said they had received a complaint

I thought I was on Candid Camera
."

Needless to say, the police eventually realised that they had acted stupidly, and returned the Gollys.

The police said:

"Officers consulted appropriate partner agencies and the Crown Prosecution Service.

No offences have been identified and the items will be returned.

Suitable advice about the sensitivities of placing such items on display is being provided to the store owner.

West Mercia Constabulary considers the matter to be closed
."

Note the phrase "no offences have been identified". In other words they acted without there ever being a breach of the law, but they looked very hard to try to find one!

Can the police, or rather should the police, be able to do that?

Is it their role to act as "thought police"?

I think not!

The police, having given the Gollys a large amount of publicity and drawn everyone's attention to the matter, can now be content in the knowledge that the Gollys will be publicly sold at an auction for charity.

Tuck Off!

Tuck Off!Nanny's obsession with svelte waistlines shows no sign of abating. She has issued yet another edict about how unbelievably fat we are becoming, and yet again is trying to interfere in our eating habits.

This time she is targeting school children. In a spectacularly naive move, Nanny is instructing schools to stop selling junk food and instead make children eat seeds.

Yes that will work!

As Samuel Johnson once said:

"A small boy in search of vitals is an abomination".

The thought of Nanny trying to satisfy young appetites with a handful of seeds is really beyond a joke. Unless the seeds were coconuts, I really don't think that this latest "initiative" will suck-seed (get it?..come on folks I'm really trying here!).

Anyhoo, Nanny's friends in the School Food Trust (SFT) have issued draft guidelines that say nuts, seeds and yoghurt drinks should replace crisps, chocolate and fizzy drinks in tuck shops.

Nanny is going to introduce laws to stop children eating sweets and chocolate, that will be among the toughest in the world.

Ironically this new "initiative" comes just days after the Audit Commission attacked Nanny for her indecision and lack of leadership, over the implementation of measures to curb child obesity.

Nanny will ban crisps (which, by the way, are a very good source of vitamin c), but for some strange reason will allow cakes and biscuits. Erm aren't cakes and biscuits fattening and bad for the teeth?

Nanny's chum Dame Suzi Leather, chairman of the SFT, said that the rules, to be introduced from September, were necessary because children were eating too much sugar, fat and salt with "little or no nutritional value".

Quote:

"They [the new rules] cannot succeed if pupils are surrounded with chocolate, crisps and drinks that fill them up with sugar and fat during the school day.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that when these products are removed, behaviour improves and this could also have implications for better learning
."

There you are folks, Nanny makes up rules based on anecdotes, not scientific fact!

Dame Suzi is not just content with banning vending machines and altering tuck shop menus, she is also going to poke her nose into children's lunchboxs. Nanny will issue lunchbox guidelines, telling parents of what should be included in a healthy diet.

Not her business!

Now here is why all of these rules will fall down:

1 Children are given large sums of pocket money each week by their parents. The children use this to buy "banned food" off school premises. My local store, owned by my friend Karim, is awash with kids buying Jamaican patties, chocolate and crisps when there is a school break.

2 The majority of a child's calorie intake takes place outside of school.

3 The poor diet of children is largely down to the muck being fed to them by their parents. How does Nanny intend to deal with that?

4 It is not the state's job to regulate what people eat. If parents are too stupid or lazy to feed their children properly, the responsibility for their children's ill health rests with them, not with the state.

5 When I was a child I ate a full breakfast, school lunch, dinner and a supper; all of this was washed down with 3 pints of milk a day. I am now 43, in excellent health and indeed am slim and "athletic" (yes ladies it's true:)).

5 These people did not become great British icons by eating nuts and seeds:
